Animal Rebellion blocks access to milk at supermarkets in four cities

  1. Fannies.

Ah sorry didn’t realise it was whole foods, in which case I dont care! As long as they’re not blocking parents getting milk for their kids breakfast, and low income families don’t tend to shop at m&s whole foods store…

  2. And with that, a mighty cheer went up from the heroes of Aisle 3. They had banished the awful milk forever, because it was haunted. Now let’s all celebrate with a cool glass of ersatz nut juice.

  3. Maybe not the best protest during a cost of living crisis.

If you take Asda, cows milk is 63p/l, with the non dairy options around 170p/l.

If you have a family using 4l/week, thats an extra £222.56 a year.

  4. I love the way they did it in m&s , as if they tried it at Asda they’d probably get dragged out of it Isle as Asda shoppers take no prisoners 🙂

  5. I’ll bite. How do we suddenly turn into a plant based system? Plant based food has only just got to the point where it’s actually enjoyable but i wouldn’t eat it all the time. Unless the protests physically stop people from getting the milk, this doesn’t really seem like an efficent way to protest. That and with the cost of living, I suspect plant based food will not be cheap.

Groups like these seem to just demand instant changes without considering how long it can take, the disruption. Hell, we, as a country almost shat ourselves when KFC ran out of chicken a few years ago and when Covid was at it’s peak, people turned into selfish dickheads at the supermarkets.

  6. I mean I don’t really support nor disagree with their overall goal but fair play for standing up for what you believe in in a peaceful and mildly inconvienent way.

  7. I don’t see how anyone thinks that this is a good idea. Since when did annoying and inconveniencing people convince them of anything? All they’re going to achieve is tarnishing their movement and ideals. Insane.

  8. I’m a fan of almond and oat milk, but it’s far too bloody expensive. Plus its not _that_ sustainable. If everyone switched to it we’d have farming problems.

Almond milk isn’t sustainable so Soy or Oat would be the only ‘real’ options for mass addoption, but it costs about 15x more than it needs to. Protesting will do fuck all. If you really want to do something (other than sitting on a supermarket floor) then get a job in the industry and make changes.

  9. I’m not vegan or vegetarian but I agree with them. They need to incentives a move to meatless or at least give tax cuts and incentives to small hold and ethical farming by taxing the factory farms! If I couldn’t buy meat then I’d just buy meatless products.
Food shouldn’t be as cheap as it is in some cases, but wages have to rise so people can afford eco options.
I calorie count for example and two thick slice bacon gives me 250 calories I’d need 4 slices of vegibacon to get the same I’d have to buy double the amount for the same calories. Supplementing with avocado is a great way to bulk more calories on but that’s still extra.
If you want to eat meat that’s fine as good I do too but they need to ensure the majority of meat is sustainable, ethical and subsidised buy taxing the cheap unethical meat to the point where you may as well get the good stuff over the cheap stuff because of taxation! It’s a win-win for every from our current state!

  10. I’m all for this, I wholeheartedly support them blocking aisles at M&S and Waitrose.

Please stay out of Tesco, Aldi and Lidl though

  11. Petrochemical and ultra processed food manufacturers have pulled a blinder putting the fault of climate change onto cows.

Ethical objection is fair enough, of course.

  12. Whole Foods in London, and Marks & Spencer’s.

Yer too much of a pussy to try this shit in an Asda in the middle of a council estate.

  13. Just walk through them, if they try to physically stop you, that can be called assault and you can use any means necessary to get them to let go

  14. If they block milk in a supermarket I’ll go to an independent.

It’s the supermarket’s job to remove obstructions, if they are not going to do that then they deserve to lose business.

  15. I do not agree with this. I agree that animal exploitation is wrong, but you should inform people about the alternatives – not be dicks and get confrontational.

A lot of people DO want to make changes, going more plant-based. HELP THEM. This way, you’re actually pushing back against them.

Also, as a parent, a lot of children are used to cow’s milk – other types may not sit well with them.

  16. If you ever really want to feel like your life is a waste and the things you care about aren’t important to other people and to just generally fell ineffective, do this! 😂

  17. If vegans want to sit down in M&S then fair play, I’m not annoyed.

Don’t try that Aldi obviously but they knew that

  18. My 12 month old just came off breastmilk & needs full fat cows milk as he’s underweight. I don’t quite think almond milk will do the trick for him…

  19. But I ask you, who is the real sick man in this so-called society? Is it me, for simply trying to enjoy the delicious lactose-laden secretions of Daisy’s udders? Or is it the businessman, in his suit and tie, trying to milk the system for all he can get?

  20. From the pic, i would simply step over them. What are they gna do, push me back? Wouldn’t that be assault if i’m not touching them in the first place? or am i assaulting them by climbing over them?

  21. That’s just dickish, the extention rebellion protest was clever because it only effected those who could make a difference whereas this is just making life more difficult in areas where there are normal people who are already struggling.
