‘Storm coming’: Britain in a mess as ruinous energy bills meet austerity

  1. Riots coming more like it. The government knows it the police know it. And both of them are s*****g themselves. Corrupt government and corrupt police forces. The tide has turned and they both see it coming.

  2. How’d come everywhere I read, I see so much pessimism? It was never like this at the height of Brexit vote…

  3. The government is sitting idly by as thousands of small businesses will be destroyed by these energy price hikes. I’m sorry, but there is no reason they can’t just ban the energy companies from raising prices to ridiculous degrees.

For example, [one of Tom Kerridge’s restaurants has been quoted a 600% increase in energy bills](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-09-02/chef-tom-kerridge-s-restaurant-faces-600-electricity-bill-increase). That is absolutely farcical. Now, he’s a successful business man and surely very wealthy, but just imagine how small, single cafes, restaurants and bars are going to be decimated by demands like this.

People’s livelihoods, businesses they’ve spent years building, just gone. And the government will do nothing. But don’t worry, Liz Truss will allow fracking again!

  4. >Your food bill is just going up; doubled, if not trebled.

Food has certainly gone up. But doubled? Trebled???

    What are they eating?

  5. If we see blackouts and a cold winter then there will be protests at best and riots at worse. The Tories are going to need to be prepared for a lot of discontent because people will finally direct their anger at the rich and the powerful when they accept that it is they who are the cause of society’s ills.

  6. It’s going to be fine your MP has their bills paid for by you on their second homes they can stay nice and warm and work out how to fix it……and by that I mean the next election

  7. There comes a point when enough is enough, not just the energy bills but the complete lack of leadership and governance. I can sort of afford to suck up the cost of living but I think why should I, why should we become poorer each year when these fuckers will not suffer one bit, not one bit. If we accept this now it’s not just on us but our children. There comes a point when enough is enough and for me that point has been reached. If there’s civil unrest this winter then I’m going to be there for sure, this can’t go on and the government need to be made aware of this.

  8. the new tory leader will be giving us all an energy bung when they finally elect them, its the only logical solution to the problem

  9. These energy bills are going to destroy the UK. I can’t see an end result -without incredible stat involvement- that doesn’t end in the UK shattering in a way people can only see in nightmares. There is no good outlook for this, because we all know the government will invariable do too little, too late. Enjoy whatever wealth you have now. You won’t have it in 6 months.

  10. Anyone look at the cost of energy in other countries currently or the reasons why? I thought not, you just posted your uneducated views and made yourselves look like dumb Labour voting cunts

  11. I’ve seen people who are struggling to pay energy bills and are so desperate that they are basically bypassing the electric meter. Dangerous to them and neighbours as fuck but I kinda sympathies with them..

It’s a basic household need and many simply cannot afford it. What are they to do?

Energy producers are reaping in record profits while exploiting our natural resource for private gains while decimating our climate.

I say we should nationalise North Sea oil or at least a temp ban on gas and oil exports
