Ballyvorney, Co. Cork wood carving

  1. Let’s hope it doesn’t meet the same fate as the one down my way that got burnt. They done a great job of restoring it, just sucks knowing there’s scum out there willing to do that.

This looks great, the detail in these will keep you looking for a long time in person. I wonder how many old tree’s around towns could be turned into something like this?

  2. There was a hape of these kinds of wood carvings in Hazelwood in Sligo back in the 90s. Of course local scumbags wrecked them not long after they were put up. Unless things have changed I’d be surprised if this one lasted long

  3. For those concerned about vandalism – this is right in the centre of the village, in front of the school on the main Cork Kerry road so there is a good bit of traffic going past it. However when the bypass opens in a few months the amount of traffic going by here will drop substanially.

This took a decent amount of time to do – not sure how long but a good few weeks at least as I passed them working on it a couple of times in the last few months so it would be a shame if anything happened to it. I wonder if anyone has looked into installing CCTV around here.

  4. Is aoibheann liom e Baile Bhourne, chait me go lor am ann chun Gaeilge a feabhasú. Chaill me mo chroi i mBaile Bourne!
