I listed my minifridge for sale on FB Marketplace. Lady claims that she wants to have a DPD guy pick it up for her at my address, and he’s meant to give me an envelope of cash for it.. it just seems odd but otherwise genuine. Sweet middle aged lady who probably cannot carry a minifridge back to her place has a shipping company do it, it makes sense, but how exactly is DPD gonna get the money from her to give to me? Is this something they would even do? It just seems weird and as a result i’m hesitant to accept and provide my address. What do y’all think?
Here is what she sent:
“Ich erkläre Ihnen, ein DPD-Agent kommt zu Ihnen nach Hause, um Ihnen einen Umschlag mit Ihrem Geld zu geben, und nachdem Sie Ihr Geld überprüft haben, geben Sie ihm den Artikel, damit er ihn zu mir nach Hause schicken kann.”

Scam
It’s a scam. Usually it is followed by: “oh, would it be possible that you buy amazon/blizzard/google gift cards of amount x, I’ll add that up. But could please send me photos of the codes in advance?”
it’s a scam.
Scam
Google-translated. “She” doesn’t even know whether to use “du” or “Sie”.
They will want an “insurance fee” or some such, paid with a Paysafecard or similar.
DPD agents don’t carry around envelopes of cash to buy things for you.
Am I going to have to make a video about this one as well?
No, it’s not normal. Yes, it’s a scam. It’s a very well-known scam. Neither DPD nor DHL nor FedEx nor UPS nor any of the others offers this service, or anything remotely like it.
