Platinum Jubilee: Celebrations cost Met Police £8.1m to cover

  1. Why the fuck are we paying out of our pockets for a so-called “royal” family to live it up whilst our own families sit in the dark, the cold, unable to afford decent food and in terror of sickness as our NHS is stripped down to its bare bones.

  2. It was a really good few days of celebration of our nation and its history. The amount of effort many of the participants put for the parades was incredible and so many people had a great time with their local parties and events.

I also don’t remember seeing any reporting of trouble, the crowds didn’t get out of control and just had fun over the extended weekend.

  3. Remember, £8.1m is a lot for a household budget but is a pittance for government spending. Yes, that money could have done a lot elsewhere too, however things like the government’s reckless spending during COVID are far worthier of your anger than this.

  4. Not surprising as there were more police in London than I saw than people allowed to celebrate.
Took the kids and they were so disappointed that there was nothing to see apart from road blocks, police sitting in SPG vans and mile upon mile of green shuttering closing off everything.
The Mall for instance, supposed to be for the public, but no shuttered off, ticket only and there were literally thousands of police just in this one small area.

  5. Misleading headline. It cost 3.4 million in additional overtime. I’m also guessing that thwre would be additional overtime spend anyway during that period.
