UGent Technologie Park decided to charge for parking in the campus, and created massive lines affecting the trafic all around, even for people just passing by, due to long lines at the barriers.

  1. For the record, i’ve heared that the companies in the park did have to pay for parking at the beginning

    I am a student myself, so if anyone wants to confirm or deny this, be my guest

    And traffic at that point was a hell from as long as i remember it

  2. Openbaar vervoer zou gratis moeten zijn. Een student ouder dan 26 jaar betaald de volle pot. D.W.Z 350euro voor 3 maanden voor éen traject bijvoorbeeld Dendermonde – Gent sint pieters.

  3. You should see the traffic near the employee parking entrance of the hospital in the morning. When I had a project in Ghent, I’d be stuck there for 20+ minutes just queueing to pass the roundabout because everyone had to go through a barrier one by one.

  5. This whole area has been a shit show for years, I doubt it’s due to the barriers.

    The main cause is the fact that traffic on the roundabout has to halt constantly for crossing pedestrians and cyclists. It would be better to have an underground or overground passage for them like at the Sterre.

    At least that was the case when I still studied there.

    I didnt often come by car, but since its so far away from the rest, when it rained badly, or when I had an exam, I just took a cambio instead of the bicycle. I dont mind cycling to work in the rain nowadays, but I do mind cycling with my personal laptop and stuff for 30 minutes, not being able to shower there, and have to sit totally wet in classes.

    That was like its one redemption point, at least there was parking. But noooo, need to monetize that I guess.

  9. Here right now, it’s a complete mess. Their parking tower has no signage whatsoever. I come here maybe once a month to give software training. My course members were all late to the training and nobody found the parking tower. Damn son

  10. uh, pretty sure judging from the map that’s just because that horrible roundabout at Don Bosco. That’s not new.

    Edit: goddamit, gridlock from Klosse to Hutsepot, crazy. Yet the new normal since that roundabout during schooldays……. Glad I don’t have to do that anymore.

  12. Not only that but Technologiepark also set barriers at some points and the roundabout creates a file for 2 trafic lights further…

  17. Its a shitty roundabout, a rainy schoolday in October and the majority of the people is now working in the office again.

  18. Before the barrier system you could enter the park through a side entrance, saving a ton of time by skipping the roundabout. But now they are forcing everyone to enter through the main entrance, redirecting even more traffic to the roundabout… It’s ridiculous

  19. If you want to charge for parking, just have people apply for parking passes online, then they get a pass to hang in their car windows and just freely park. Then have some stupid parking enforcer to come out and make the rounds to make sure people have valid permits. So you don’t have to deal with barriers.

  21. Wait till they close down the ramp to E40 in a few months, then you’ll see a shit show 🤔

    The barriers were put in place mostly because inhabitants of the tramstraat (and surrounding) are fed up of technology park traffic driving via there. Now that access is made exit only. So everyone who could previously shortcut there is forced to the already overcrowded roundabout.
