Sunrise just informed me that I cannot skip commercials on some channels anymore with the Replay TV function because they lose ad revenue. The entire text is in the comments

    Due to new legal regulations regarding time-shifted TV broadcasting, the use of TV Replay, recordings and Live Pause will change from October 3. From now on, you will not be able to skip commercials on certain channels in Replay mode.

    The Replay TV service is becoming more and more popular, which means that many users skip commercials. Some TV channels have therefore objected that the Replay TV feature in its current form is causing them to lose significant advertising revenue. In order to be able to continue to offer the popular Replay TV service, the entire TV industry has agreed on a compromise regulated in a new industry agreement.

  7. With Salt they asked me Iif I wanted to have the same problem or if I wanted to pay more to have a 7 day relapy + skippable ads… for 3.- a month you pay. Boy I love this country

  8. Not really Sunrise’s fault. It were the private TV chanels (RTL, Prosieben, etc) that were unhappy with the replay funktion.

    However, afaik only german speaking private chanels are affected. You should still be able to skip ads on french chanels and public chanels like SRF and ORF.

  11. Annnnd that’s why I don’t have TV at home…
    I have Netflix, Disney+ (I pay of course) but no ads.
    YouTube? Plug your PC on your tv screen and add AdBlock plugin, no ads.
    For everything else I go on the pirate bay 😉

  12. Before you overreact:
    Swisscom has the affected channels listed, and it’s pretty much just CH-Media (3+ and those), RTL, and Sat1Pro7 channels. So assi-tv of the German variety. If you don’t watch those, you’re fine. 🙂

    It sucks big time. And I will absolutely cancel my TV subscription and torrent everything from now on.

    Maybe if enough of us do this and hit them where it hurts them (their wallets!!) then they might stop this nonsense again…

  17. I haven’t watched TV for years and I’m so happy about it. I’d rather pay 20 or so CHF each month for the few streaming service I like and sail the high seas for the rest than pay for TV again.

  18. So happy with my IPTV.. 60e/years with all the streaming services, most of worldwide channels, and every movies straight out after launch.

    They push us continually to cheating.

  21. It would be horrible, HORRIBLE I tell you, if you could just put “movies” “7” and “.to” into your browser…

    I gladly pay for my spotify and netflix subscription, but I will NOT watch ads on a PAID TV subscription, if I’m not allowed to watch it the way I like.

  23. At Salt, they changed the replay to like 7 days with ads, but added an option for 4 or 5 chf for 30 day replay with skippable ads.

  24. Thanks for comforting me in my decision to switch to init7 ASAP (when Sunrise contract is done, maybe in a year).

  25. I guess you can immediately terminate the contract because they changed the terms?
    You should check your options, i wouldnt let that sit.

Got the same from Salt a couple months back, ridiculous and one more reason to never touch regular TV again… I really don’t think this will have the effect TV stations hoped it would, it’s just gonna annoy people and bring them to other platforms that run without ads. After all you pay for the damn service.

  29. I got the same email from Sunrise but it doesn’t seem to affect any of the English language channels that I watch.

  30. Oh and fyi, sunrise have an auto opt in “family protection” that normally costs 10 chf but is free for you. What it really does is snoop on all your traffic, prevents https from working properly and prevents vpns from having a secure connection.

    Just an FYI for those out there.

  32. The reality is that TV is funded by advertising. Blocking the advertising blocks the funding. No funding = no TV. Theres no such thing as free TV without ads. If there was, they would be a charity…
