As someone who has a close friend with Asperger’s to say it’s a ‘personality disorder’ makes it sound more sinister than it is. Yes it’s a developmental disorder but there’s a large spectrum of it and many lead very ordinary lives
So awfully sad but not surprising. HSE is not fit for purpose.
What is the point of the HSE if they do fuck all
Remember the siblings who lost the civil action in the NUI Galway discrimination claim. You guessed it, [Enoch](https://www.rte.ie/news/courts/2021/1122/1262421-burke-siblings-nuig/), his brother and two sisters. I really feel sorry for this guy, his parents really did well on messing him up
Jokes about Enoch aside, it’s shameful to the state of our mental health services that someone would need to go this route.
He is not mentally ill. And he assaulted the hse mental health nurses. Just jail him already.
Asperger’s is not a personality disorder, and neither Asperger’s (or High Functioning Autism as it’s actually called) nor Personality disorders are Mental illnesses. Complaining that the Mental Health services won’t offer an intervention for this man’s problems is like complaining that your dentist won’t sort you out with glasses. There’s supposed to be a completely different service for people with developmental disorders, at least for children, and there’s an absence of services for adults.
Neither Asperger’s nor personality disorder explain or excuse assaulting care staff.
As someone whos witnessed the care inside the prison system and trust me its bad but this just proves how bad the HSE and Ireland is!!
As a person with mental health difficulties I know quite well that the mental health services here are not up to par, but it seems odd to me that he’d be refused treatment, you get stuck on long waiting lists not point blank told no to treatment. So is he not getting a specific treatment he wants, is being told he doesn’t need treatment or what?
Ah, so suspended sentences are actually the stricter punishments, now it all makes sense…
