How to fix / improve kitchen counter (without having to replace)? Have left it wet one too many days 🙁

  1. Sand the whole thing down and refinish it. Gonna be a lot easier if you can remove the sink, but doable anyway. Google is your friend here. “Refinish wood countertop” would be a good search term to start with.

I think biltema let’s you rent power tools. You will absolutely want to get a random orbital sander for this.

  2. Both sink and counter looks old and sheit. Swap it out, it will be almost same price to swap it for a nice laminate.

If you have to fix it, you have to deep sand the whole thing and oil it couple times. Theres not guarantee it will even be perfect again. Remove the silicon, remove the sink, cut with a thin knife around the sink, use silicon remover to get everything off the wall, countertop and sink. Deep sand whole thing, and refinish with ur prefered chemicals.

Also, keep your wood countertop maintained and it will be waterproof.

  3. Make sure the wood is completely dry, then sand the entire surface down with finer and finer sandpaper (with the mentioned random orbital sander). use multiple coats of oil to absorb into the wood and away you go.

  4. Doubt you will be able to fix this, regardless of how many handymen are in the comments here. If you had a industrial grade belt sander, maybe, but i doubt that’s the case. Without that i don’t see the surface become even again after beginning to sand it down.
Looks like quite a lot of water damage, and in my opinion replacing it is your only real option at this point.
