    If you watch closely, he passed at a red light 🤦‍♀️ BRUH.

  7. To those few of you that think “it’s not that bad, he can drive safely while doing that”… I used to be one of you.

    I had developed a technique where I held the phone at eye level so I was still sort of looking at the road while texting. Wrists resting on top of the wheel sort of thing. I thought this was “fairly safe”.

    Then one day, I found myself 20 seconds deep on a one way road before noticing. I was lucky: it was very early and there were no other cars around.

    I’ll still take a quick glance at incoming texts on the phone’s lockscreen, but I pull over to reply.

  10. It reminds me of that TEC driver that was affected on my line that would count the money they made at the evening during the winter in a pitch black road.

  12. Dunno bout brussels, but they did implement the law/rule of taking ur license away for a while if you get caught driving with a phone anywhere near being usable other than being the GPS. Right?

  13. I never text and drive, but man… Since I started driving a motorcycle I can see drivers better. The amount of people driving and texting is staggering. It infuriates me. You’re right to point this out OP.

  14. I find it hard to understand you are endangering the lives of people YOU are responsible for as a driver. I hope he at least had a good excuse to be texting while driving and it was an emergency, but even then… God people should be fined so much worse for doing this especially when driving around others.

  19. Had several encounters with drivers like these – once in Oostende my gf and our baby (in a stroller) were walking on the sidewalk and were crossing the street (we were already on the crosswalk), all of a sudden the bus came driving like a maniac and took a turn and didn’t stop.
    I had to push my gf and stroller back onto the sidewalk or else we would have gotten run over!

    I knocked on the windows of the bus like crazy and the dude stopped and was cussing at me and said he came from the right side so he had “voorrang”. Wtf!!
    Reported his ass.

    Another time I was driving on a roundabout and this bus came out of nowhere and almost crashed 3 cars just to get on the roundabout – we (3 cars) were already on the roundabout and the bus was just coming out of a side street.

    Then this maniac was drifting left and right driving over the bicycle path where young kids drive frequently. He also crossed the other oncoming traffic lane and almost hit 2 other cars.
    Did the same thing and reported him.

    You get this standard reply back: we have contacted the bus drivers coach and he will handle it with the driver.

    Not sure if anything else will be done. But those people should not allowed to ride these murderweapons.

  20. Too bad his busnumber isn’t visible, otherwise I would know if was a subcontractor “pachter” or a De Lijn driver directly. But most likely subcontractor, they are always having such shenanigans.

    I’m betting 214 or 355. Those are the most wild here in Brussels and never on time 🙄
    If I could change just one thing in Belgium it would probably involve removing delijn or give it all to the mivb-stib

  24. I once had to take a replacement bus because because they were working on the trainrails in Ghent. 10minutes in, the driver asked me and the others on the bus if anyone knew the way. Like wtf, isn’t that your job? She eventually dropped us off in the middle of the roundabout at Ghent Dampoort.
    That was the last time I set foot on a bus.

  29. Can be a driver from an ‘exploitant’. Check the bus number on the back. 4 digits means it’s De Lijn owned, more than 4 numbers mean it’s an exploitant.

  30. Well last week I almost got hit by a bus that was driving on the cycling path. Path is 10 cm above the road. How much lack of attention must you have . Oh yeah 200m from a school at 08:00

  33. De Lijn can’t hire better drivers because we refuse to give them the money to do so.

    And if they fire all the crappy drivers then people will whine that their buses are cancelled.

  34. Yea, seen that plenty. They don’t disguise their boredom while at work. When not texting they are talking a lot on the phone.

  36. Do you have the route/bus number and the time you got on the bus? If so, definitely file a complaint with DeLijn. They are required to look at and process every single complaint they get so it should definitely get some attention.

  39. Yesterday the bus skipped my stop. I went to the front and the guy just pointed at his earpiece and said “sorry I was busy”.

  43. Wtf. Then again, I drive like 5km a day and the only thing I see is people holding their phone., apping or calling. Mostly on cars that definitely have blue tooth :rolleyes:.

    But tbh I’ve only saw De Lijn drivers using their phones at a stop, don’t know if that’s allowed but isn’t dangerous or anything..

    (And yeah I really need my car for that short distance. Kids, pets and necessities)

    It’s not like he’s responsible for the safety of a few dozen people or anything…

  45. Honestly: best argument I’ve ever seen for taking the bus.
    It’s dangerous to be on his bus, but even moreso to be in the car in front of him.
