Notting Hill Carnival: Questions rise over event amid safety concerns

  1. Issue is if it becomes a ticketed event you’ll just end up with a big crowd forming nearby without any proper supervision. There has to be a way for people to have fun without assaulting eachother, but it seems as though every major event has a few knobheads who ruin the fun for everyone (or allow the media to portray it that way).

  2. Year in year out this “carnival” has issues..and the fact there are people defending it with well it was only a few crimes…how many stabbing..a murder..property damage…a group of men sexually assaulting a female police officer

Cancel it…won’t be any big loss
It’s of little value to Notting Hill or anywhere else for that matter.

  3. When you gather a million humans together there is GUARANTEED to be crime. Don’t forget, without rules we revert back to our natural states (giant apes). This is REGARDLESS of skin colour. White, black, red, blue, put a million of us together on the street and shit is getting broken.

  4. Watching back my body worn video from the Monday evening, it was like a cross between a zombie apocalypse film and the Purge, with crowds of drunks staggering around everywhere and sporadic outbursts of random violence.

The family day is an example of what Notting Hill should be, before the Monday dissolves into a sea of sexual assaults, stabbings, overdoses and drunken violence.

Part of the problems, especially with uncontrolled crushing, are that it takes place on narrow streets. I think that a lot of the problems would be solved with the Hyde Park proposal; move it to a bigger, more open area where we won’t get as many injures from crushing, and where the police on scene can get better visibility over what’s happening. It’ll also potentially space it out better.

I don’t know why this event is allowed to continue without huge changes. The Monday is always carnage and violence.

  5. If you actually attended Notting Hill Carnival this year put a 🌟 at the beginning of your comment. Too many people have an opinion about an event they will never attend. I attended Monday and it was an awesome event, I’d missed it soo much, the community, the jovialty, sound stages, food. I arrived at 13.00 and left when the music shut down at 19.00 caught a tube home. There was a visible police presence and my interactions with the police were good natured.

My condolences to the family of Takayo Nembhard. RIP.
