>Protests by Extinction Rebellion and other radical groups “do work” in pressuring governments to act on climate change, the Environment Minister Lord Goldsmith has said

>The Conservative peer said that protesters reflected “the real anxiety” of many people that the planet was “heading towards the cliff” and that politicians were not doing enough in response

>There is a real sense of anxiety that we are heading towards the cliff and we’re not doing enough – and that’s true, we’re not

>“And that kind of pressure does work. It may be annoying, but it works. I’ve seen even as a minister, the increased pressure that we get from constituents onto their MPs and then back onto their ministers as a consequence of activities that some of these organisations get involved in.”
Corporate capitalism + Tory political insanity have been fucking everything up for 30 of the last 40 years
Extinction Rebellion, our good guys are fighting the good fight. They always have my support
Hopefully, we dont end up living in a barren wasteland like China or an inland lake like Pakistan
As much as I want the tories out, I wonder what the reaction of these people would be if their chosen candidates won an election and then someone else tried to attack the democratic process by gluing themselves to the speakers chair.
The general electorate being stupid in your opinion doesn’t give you the right to attack the democratic process, not to mention that removing the democratic process has always throughout history brought something even worse.
Who is paying the “is this an insurrection?” posters? Seems to be an unusually common response to this story.
As to the actual story, fair enough as a protest, but I don’t think it will achieve much. And for anyone actually asking for “maximum punishment” in good faith, that’s probably 51 weeks in prison for criminal trespass on a protected site.
Lock them up for criminal damage.
Who cares ? Leave them there
Just leave them there.
You can’t get any traction protesting lawmakers without any kind of civil disobedience. Extinction Rebellion can be pretty terrible at communicating and winning support, but they have a legitimate grievance and specific criticisms and goals. This highlights that the government is doing absolutely nothing right now in the face of several climate crises.
Protesting is a fools way of sticking their fingers in the ears and stamping their feet
I find the aesthetic of a person with a bicycle d-lock round their neck and a railing hysterical. Like they woke up there after a bender last night 😂
If this were America the media would be claiming this was an insurrection
Nothing on the BBC news hmm.
How bad is the security at Westminster to allow this.
