Cutlery Works Sheffield: Hospitality workers win ‘incredible’ 45 per cent pay rise, says TUC

  1. A huge rush to credit them “organising” since Feb but no actual indication of any action taken beyond having a conversation with their employer?

  2. The headline of 44% is good, but in practical terms this is a handful of teenagers who are getting a raise of £3/hour, as they moved from minimum wage to living wage.

44% is hardly something that could be rolled out across everyone’s pay packet.

  3. After visiting there for the first time last weekend and sitting in the incredible heat that permeates the entire building with no aircon and just giant industrial fans that just push hot air around all I can say is they deserve it.

I was nearly dead sitting in it, I’d want paying well for *working* in it for 8+ hours.

  4. Cutlery Works is one of the most expensive food halls in Sheffield. The fact that the under 25s there were not being paid £9 an hour before is absolutely disgusting.

    A well deserved rise.
