This is a good way to make yourself not seem unhinged alright. You definitely come out the better in this exchange.
Going to need some context here. Starts off with what seems like a reasonable email exchange (even though you posted it when he specifically asked you not to), then it spirals from there.
What’s all this about?
Maybe it is us that are the corrupt ones.
lmao you lose any moral high ground the second you publish the correspondence like this.
You could have written a story without publishing the actual correspondence
I think “too big a story” was a polite way of saying they don’t want to deal with you
“Please don’t publish this”
Publishes anyway – for them to work with you they would have needed to know they could trust you.
You posting this when they asked not to – shows they cannot
You come off as unreliable and unhinged in that to be frank. They’ll certainly never entertain you again now, nor will any other journalist who reads that.
Bring it to another paper. Maybe the Times UK? Has an Irish market/edition.
Looks like you don’t have actual evidence and you’re claiming it is because they don’t want to publish it. He’s being polite because he doesn’t want to insult you, he also asked you not to publish that exchange which you did, destroying any sense of credibility you may have had before.

If it’s as big as a story as you claim then why don’t you publish it on your blog post ? This is not 20th century that you have to rely on newspapers, you can publish what you want. If its a big story then people will follow it.
Publishing a private email correspondence where you asked for permission to publish, were denied, and you still went to publish it is bad form.
