I noticed pre-covid the trains would have a carriage at the back specifically for people to be quiet in, they were small but they were a godsend for me as I have sensory issues and being in a carriage with no children that people aren’t allowed to shout in was amazing

I recently have been getting the train again and they aren’t there anymore, my last train trip a group of loud drunk people got onto my carriage and about 20 minutes later a baby started crying. I was so overwhelmed I had to move to 1st class (and pay most of the money I had at the time to move) just to stop my brain exploding

Does anyone know what happened these and if they’ll ever be back? I was on the Sligo Dublin Line but I’ve also seen them on the Cork Dublin line in the past

EDIT: So I looked this up and turns out Irish tail removed them in 2018 because phone use (in my experience people seem to not know headphones exist on trains and buses and just blare shit from their phone)

One of the Green Party reps thinks they should put up signs or have gardí on the trains 🙄

Honestly I think they should just bring the quiet carriage back for all lines

Article I found about it – https://www.dublinlive.ie/news/irish-rail-urged-put-up-24784400.amp

  1. This has never existed on the Waterford line. I’m amazed to hear Irish Rail did it at all. It’s a no brainer. Sorry to hear you’d such a horrible journey, I think anyone would feel overwhelmed in that situation!
