Hi everyone, I hope y’all have enjoyed a few slices of Zopf and have started well into this fine Sunday!
As you all might know, it’s a voting Sunday today, this means the polls are still open until 12 o’clock. First projections are then expected shortly after.
Today we vote on the following federal topics:
* Nursing Initiative
* Justice Initiative
* COVID-19 Act
For coverage info, I’m recommending:
* If you just want the numbers, the Federal Statistic Office (FSO) publishes and constantly updates them here:
* [Results published by the Bundesamt für Statistik (BFS) in German](https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/de/home/statistiken/politik/abstimmungen/jahr-2021/2021-11-28.html)
* [Results published by the Office fédéral de la statistique (OFS) in French](https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/fr/home/statistiques/politique/votations/annee-2021/2021-11-28.html)
* [Results published by the Ufficio federale di statistica (UST) in Italian](https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/it/home/statistiche/politica/votazioni/anno-2021/2021-11-28.html)
* If you want them in some neutral-ish context, I can strongly recommend the SRF/RTS coverage:
* [Der Abstimmungssonntag bei SRF (in German)](https://www.srf.ch/news/abstimmungen-28-november-2021/trends-resultate-und-analysen-die-schweiz-stimmt-ab-noch-bis-12-uhr-sind-die-urnen-offen)
* [Coverage at RTS in French](https://www.rts.ch/info/suisse/12660143-la-suisse-vote-sur-les-soins-infirmiers-la-loi-covid-et-le-tirage-au-sort-des-juges-federaux.html)
* [Coverage at Swissinfo in English](https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/vote-november-28–2021—results-covid-law-switzerland/47058458)
* I really really like the App VoteInfo, available on iOS/Android, which also gives access to the FSO numbers and displays them quite nicely.
* If you want some fancy-pants graphs and/or some background coverage, I’m inclined to recommend any of the Tamedia prints, but they are paywalled (the other coverage info so far are not)
You can find the old discussion post on this topic here: [Discussion Thread for the popular vote on 28. November 2021](https://reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/qmv64d/discussion_thread_for_the_popular_vote_on_28/).
So, happy discussion and please, stay civil.

I had to vote in person today and there was an unmasked Karen (next to the ballot box) who was throwing a fit and then stormed out of the building. She probably was told to wear a mask.
Looks like the Nursing Initiative is going to pass. I’m happy about it. With the new Covid wave and variant I feel that nurses will gladly take such a high level of support from the population, and the increased income later on (might take a while).
The Justice initiative is officially rejected.

Wow it’s rare that an initiative goes the way I hoped. I can’t vote but I’m happy for Switzerland today.

I am amazed at the third of no for nursing initiative. What’s the deal with such a small yet kind of big opposition? Do you want a country lacking nursing and rely on more foreigners who won’t stay in undetermined contracts anyway, just to make a little more money for their homes abroad?
The gemeinde of Muotathal has highest NO vote on covid 19 as of now.
79.4%
it was either schwyz or appenzell inerrhoden so im not surprised
Any information on the turnout so far?
Too bad regarding the justice initiative, but not the worst. The other national initiatives were far more important. Really glad about them!
However, I have to shake my head regarding the initiative in Basel.. I think you f-ed up big this time. Nice that you want to stop people getting thrown out (that part is good.. if we wouldn’t already have a law ready for next year)… so why did you have to effectively stop any investments into necessary rennovations as well, especially stuff like improvements for the environment? U goofed up, because most investments in this direction will now stop. You could have waited till next year, when the new renter protection law would have come into effect. But fuck the environment and maintained buildings I guess?
Thomas Wiesel proves that once again [He](https://twitter.com/wieselT/status/1464949997426941960?s=20). [Cannot](https://twitter.com/wieselT/status/1464950005060485123?s=20). [Miss](https://twitter.com/wieselT/status/1464950012471881733?s=20).
Democracy is not only the right to disagree with the authorities and take counter-measures, it is also the right to agree with them if they do a good job.
So far, the public has sent a clear message to the authorities that they approve the way the handle the pandemic and justice, with the only addition that the heroes of this pandemic should also get better compensation (which is only fair).
Today, I am very positive about the Swiss society!
It’s a thought-provocing scenario, when so many votes are relatively close. It’s not like 99-1 or at least 90-10 It’s not a great majority. It’s oftentimed like 60-40 or even closer. Imagine less than 2/3 completely overrunning and ignoring the needs and wants of over 1/3 of the population. I realize that more and more as a watch more and more popular votes of any kind. Maybe Thomas Hobbes was right after all? There has to be some kind of better system and better way to settle those things and find an agreement, rather than totally shutting down slightly less than half of the population, just because they are a minority. ESPECIALLY in todays world, where we become more sensible to the majority oppressing the minority and more sensible to the needs of minorities.
Just my thoughts, not directly related to the 3 topics of todays vote.
How are people against judges being elected in a neutral process? Under what viewpoint is it a good idea to bind judges to political parties?
Not a huge surprise but still a nice visualization.
Yes share to covid law on the y-axis, share of fully vaccinated people on the x-axis:

Impfskeptiker deserved this. Otherwise the entire Corona story will continue for decades.
Huh, and I still haven’t received my voting materials in Canada. Like many others according to a group chat. So strange…. This has never happened before. I wonder if Swiss in other countries didn’t get anything either.

Anti certificate people: folks were too dumb to vote correctly
I mean what else do they mean when they say the question on the ballot was misleading?
What they actually try to say: it’s ok folks we didn’t really lose the people actually are still with us
Oh well. No, they are not. Let’s stop this bullshit and start acting to stop the pandemic please.
I am happy, the low majority of anti vaxers will abide as the debate has ended. Suisse way. Will some moron do a trump to persuade the lost people of Switzerland to attack bern’s parliamentary House, possibly.
The lost people : who are they and why are they struggling with the truth?
Für einige Unterstützer des Abstimmungsorganisators (Peter Metzinger FDP) ging es nur um den Sieg. Alles andere war irrelevant.
I’m happy about how it turned out. Covid Law and Nursing Initiative were both desperately needed. Judges I think would have been nice to have but from what I’ve learned in the meantime the current system works well enough and the change was very drastic. I’m fine with a NO here.
Biggest laugh of the week-end.
In Geneva, they just accepted a law to make it possible to remove sitting “State Councillors”, following the Maudet scandal …
… voted yes at **91.6%**.
Valais has accepted an initiative that straight up bans people to “promote the population of great predators” in the Canton’s constitution.
Good luck for them to put this in the law in a way that doesn’t contradict the rest of the cantonal constitution, federal laws and the federal constitution.
Because this law has no standing.
