Delays leave man facing four years in Leicester jail without trial

  1. Criminal barristers are going on strike over things like this. Their pay is low but funding to the system is dire and it leaves people, victims and accused, waiting years for their chance to receive justice. For a country that claims to value justice and the right to a fair trial, we don’t seem interested in paying for people to have that right.

  2. With the interactions I’ve been having on Reddit today, I’d be surprised if people don’t say he deserves it for ending up there in the first place.

  3. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Even if the guy is guilty as hell (and facing a longer stretch than 4 years), he deserves a swift day in court.

  4. Surely they can’t keep him in jail if he hasn’t been convicted? Not for four years… What law are they using to justify that?

  5. Why would the judge deny bail? Clearly it is long indicated.

And it is a shame that we do not have double jeopardy. Two botched trials, and he is still in prison. That is not justice, that is not rule of law, that is a shambles.

  6. The daft part is, even if found guilty he may well still be released straight away on time already served! That being said, drug supply and firearm charges? Unlikely to be granted bail based on the seriousness of them.
