Worst of both worlds, now the family can see, make up a bunch of lies and we can’t verify.
There is no point in releasing the footage to the family. It does nothing but upset them more.
We should let the investigators investigate with minimal public pressure.
This guy was clearly a gangster and it’s no surprise that this happened. However, his family are grieving and are obviously not going to see this from an unbiased perspective, and will likely continue to accuse the Met of racism, even if the shooting was justified.
The whole point of police bodycams is so they can stand up to *public* scrutiny. We are at a point where the public are in the streets protesting what they believe to be an unnecessary, racist use of excessive force, despite the fact they don’t actually know.
**Show the whole public the footage.**
Probably that they’ll come away from the viewing thinking the shooting was justified: 0
The guy was a gangster, a known criminal with links to firearms.
If you are mourning his death you need to take a long look in the mirror. Certainly not celebrating his death but the world is a safer place without him in it.
With that said, the police should release the footage if it isnt going to be used as evidence for a trial.
The more of /r/unitedkingdom I read – the more worried I get for the future of this country.
Multiple threads on this issue, with multiple comments advocating the gunning down of this individual purely based on his criminal history.
Never mind that a core value of our nation is that everyone should be entitled to a fair trial. These commentators believe we should just gun down anyone with a criminal past that’s suspected of a crime.
The only thing we know for a fact in this case is that Chris was unarmed, and killed by an armed police officer. Everything else is subject to an investigation and until that is concluded, we can’t pass judgement. Of course the family are going to advocate for the rights of there slain son, and that a thorough investigation is completed.
Why do people always get up in arms about the police shooting a scumbag, yet not when the scumbags shoot an innocent person?
It won’t dissuade them even if the video is clear cut proof the shooting was justified. A rabble must be roused, always, the facts never matter.
Lot of shite been said. The real and true answer is one and it is that no one knows what happened except those who saw the footage. Until then, shut up. It could either be police brutality or a criminal that had it coming. We just don’t know
As far as I’m concerned my view……. this unfortunate situation for the parents, they view their son as a lovely church going son, like so many in the community, living a double life to the parents. The bottom line there can not be one law for black and one law for white people !!!!!!!! This is happening, they can not walk on water !!!!!
He was killed 10 days ago, it became a homicide investigation 6 days ago, and the IOPC still haven’t interviewed the officer who pulled the trigger under caution.
The police obviously aren’t looking for another suspect… Everyone is entitled to a fair and public hearing within a reasonable time, surely an investigation of this nature, with all the video and audio evidence that must be available, should have concluded by now?
