Is that a big factor here though? Itse more to do with prices being out of control and new builds being sold internationally pre market
Dereliction is a much bigger problem here than vacancy.
They’re not landlords if they don’t let the house out ffs, you can’t keep blaming other people who work abroad, who went travelling, have a holiday home for the lack of supply. People don’t won’t to buy, they have an easy life with rental supplements and don’t want the burden of a mortgage.
Who wants to buy now with all the added bullshit, it’s like a life sentence, if you go away for a few months now you’ll be forced to rent out your home which is not a rental. You’ll be forced to move all your shit out into storage so some scrounger can move in wreck the place and refuse to move out when you get back.
This new 7 years in prison and massive fine for a few whores who used their bodies to pay the rent will do nothing other than to scare anyone who had a spare room into not renting it out as the accusation alone could destroy them.
They really want you homeless honestly.
But but…they will leave the market!!!?!?!!!
‘You can’t do that’ ‘wha abou the free market’ ‘I didn’t work hard to buy 7 houses so someone could tell me what to do with them’, etc etc
Michael Martin has five properties, our glorious leader would therefore never introduce laws like that.
Curious to know how they’re going to enforce this – can’t be too hard to get a friend or housesitter to sit in for a while every three months or so…
Dublin has a very low vacancy rate so this would make fuck all difference.
Nationally, vacancy rates are low in places people want to live and high in shit counties,
Stop talking about shitte measures and just push forward the idea that the gov needs to build more social housing.
Most derelict buildings are protected structures and refurbishment costs multiples of a new build as the Irish heritage society want things restored to exactly as they were using old techniques regardless of cost or labour involved.
Usually the costs are unrecoverable, especially in the time after the crash, and buildings just fall further into disrepair.
