Government urged to cancel ‘ludicrous’ parliamentary recess to pass energy bill measures before October | Hospitality and manufacturing businesses have warned they could go bust but MPs will not look at legislation until the second half of October

  1. Gotta ask yourself what other dodgy stuff is happening in parliament while the entire country and media’s attention is on the Royal family

  2. So they couldn’t do anything because of the Tory leadership contest. Then they couldn’t do anything because of the Queen. Then they couldn’t do anything because of the conference season. Got it.

  3. We desperately need a proper constitution in this country. We can’t have a parliament that calls itself democratic, on one hand, and on the other swans off whenever it feels like it. We pay these people to run the country, we elect them to do a job, they should fucking well do it!

  4. Yeah honestly we haven’t had a government for nearly a year now;

    – Conference season now
    – Queens death
    – leadership contest
    – Boris administration

My restaurants energy bills have gone up from £3k per year to £82k. My coffee shops energy bills have gone from £1.5k a year to £52k. I don’t think people realise how serious this going to get in the comings weeks.

  5. Truss saying “Britain doesn’t have enough Grift” and MP’s only work for half the time, even then spend most of it trying to sell they actually work.

  6. They get 80k. Year and don’t want to do their jobs, yet liz calls the normal hard working people of this country lazy at their job and wants to take away your workers rights, you just can’t make this up!

  7. But won’t anyone think of the Donors?

How will they fund £50k champagne receptions at the party conferences if they don’t take place?

  8. Remember the words of the former Prime Minister “Fuck business.” Government doesn’t work for anyone except the elites.

  9. “Shut up plebs. We have feet to put up and coke to sniff. Why not just take a few thousand pounds out of your substantial savings which you obviously have. No I’m not detached from reality”

  10. So on top of a summer recess(which is too long in my opinion) parliament now has another recess due to the queens death(nothing says stable country like having to shut down the government) and the conference recess(which I can somewhat understand but the timing seems inappropriate)

  11. Kicking the can down the road, the Tory speciality. Especially employed when they actually have to help the rabble rather than control and subjugate them

  12. How about a list of all businesses owned by Tory MPs and their families, so we can all boycott them until they go bust?

  13. Maybe bump up the MP’s pay and expenses review so that they’re before the energy crisis and you’ll see an immediate return to parliament…👍

  14. It’s terrible to strike but it’s fine to sit around on all kinda of holidays as an elected official during a multi-crisis catastrophe.

Handy how that works out for them.

  15. They might as well break up for Christmas by that point too. They can just wait until there are fewer people alive and fewer businesses open before tackling the issue, that might make it easier for them.

We thought Johnson was lazy while in power, yet Truss is really showing us how to graft when it comes to laziness.

  16. Need a recess cos they work just so darn hard. It’s so tough running the country some of them can only squeeze in barely 3 extra jobs. They need a break to concentrate on another couple during the break
