Valaisan Civil Registry deems unisex first names “contrary to the interests of children”

  1. Who want’s to bet they wouldn’t have said anything if it was claude or dominique?

Also the wording makes it very clear, they have absolutely no authority to force a change, so why don’t they just shut up?.

  2. Meanwhile in Valais I know both male and female:
    – Alex
    – Camille
    – Jess
    – Frédérique
    – Raphael
    – Maxime
    – Sam
    – Claude

And probably a few more I could not remember.

    They definitely care about children.

  3. Kezia isn’t “unisex” at all, it is a Hebrew female name from the Old Testament (book of Job). The parents should point out to this “Officier de l’état de Sion” that he or she is a bad Catholic.

  4. i mean even if they are not ‘unisex’ some names people have no idea is they are meant to be unisex or not, so this is a weak argumentation of the civil registry.

that being said, parents, think hard how to name your children the name can affect a lot of the future and i am not talking about ‘forgein’ names here.

something simple as the alphabetical order can decide how likely it is to get accepted to [schools](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0272775710000701?via%3Dihub) i also heard that there is a link between how high a teacher thinks the intelligence of the child is and how high on the list it is.

  5. This letter is absolutely unacceptable. Their job is to register these names not freaking question the choices let alone try to influence people.

  6. As if those kids wouldn’t very soon be judged by their genre first and foremost. Not sure they could somehow “forget” if they’re a boy or a girl…

  7. When opposing to something that goes against whatever belief system you hang on to, you can just claim it is for the sake of the children.

  8. It is wrong on every level (but again, it’s Valais so no one will be surprised), but fortunately it has zero coercitive effect, it’s a mere “warning”. Stupid and vain, though.
