My dad was Finnish but I raised in the US, around the language & culture though. Curious what people without leftist ideologies think about this piece. I’d like to hear the from non-woke on this piece but I don’t know where to find them.

If confirmation bias is what you are looking for, the internet has what you need!
You can find many opinions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Finland/search?q=happiest&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all
That headline is just awful. You want to find people who think like you to confirm your pre-conceived position, right?
First the article talks about research that would have valid points, but suddenly its all straw-men and anecdotal views. Of course there are issues here, but this article focuses on the 5% that are not happy. What is the woke-issue here?
As said elsewhere, check your confirmation bias.
Racism exists in every country that I’ve ever been to. It is a problem here in Finland but I feel like it is being worked on. But that’s just my feeling. I’ve not met any immigrant so far that hasn’t been happy to live here. I’m one myself and I’ve had many language classes in different schools with adult immigrants from all over the world.
A society can never be perfect for everyone, but that in itself is ok as long as you look at your failures and try to improve. I think Finns as a nation and as individuals tend to try and improve things more than any other people I’ve been embedded with.
Articles like this one exist and it is a good thing that the problems of society can be discussed here. Not with shouting and screaming but with quiet words with strangers in the sauna.
A general thing with articles like this is that writer visits the capitol meets some interesting people there and writes his/her article. Paris is not France, Washington is not the USA and Helsinki is not Finland. Some people like to present Finland as a multi cultural, multi racial country, but the truth is that 92% or 95% of us speaks finnish as native language and can track their family tree few generation back without any non-european ancestors.
I don’t know how ‘woke’ I am.
Everyone has their own experience, and while there was one quote I find hard to agree with or believe as is, I know several of the situations described can and do happen (like some random diatribe about ‘taking our women’).
No idea what kind of an answer you’re expecting though. People to claim there’s no racism? There is, definitely.
*E: removed redundant double sentence.
Dude, wokeism is not left-wing! I’ts considered more like a part of the whole populist-right-wing ideology. confrontation of minorities against each other. Orginating from the USA and Great Britain. (brexit, trump)
We saw this coming, South Park warned us about pc-principals. Things that are happening in the conservative right-wing countries such as GB ad USA arrive here a bit late.
Anyways, some people are still confused and do think they are promoting equality with their woke-religion. But most of Finns do understand that segregation and censorship is not doing any good to human rights nor equality.
Op, clearly your Dad hasen’t educated you in the differances of the Finnish/European left and right compared to the american left and right
I don’t know how to tell you, but people on the right of the political spectrum here would be considered leftist in America.
Uhh what are people talking about confirmation bias? This article is seemingly pretty left leaning, OPs looking for thoughts from people that aren’t leftist? That’s the opposite of confirmation bias. They’re trying to know the opinion of the other side
