Germany: Post-Merkel government set to ease migration, citizenship rules

  1. You know Germany is making immigration there so much more appealing to be honest. With them recently relaxing visa requirements I grow incredibly curious of Germany’s Post-Merkel era

  2. I find some of the things in the coalition agreement such as the dual citizenship perfectly OK, but some other ones seem too relaxed – for no direct benefit to Germany, such as the minimum time required for citizenship.

Even though I can benefit from it, I don’t think it’s necessary to reduce citizenship eligibility down to something like 3 years of residence.

  3. I really hope they follow through swiftly with the dual citizenship. I don’t want to lose my citizenship to obtain the German one, but I would also like to be able to vote in Germany.

  4. Maybe they should make it easier for other EU citizens first. Not only you (still) have to wait 6-7 years but the processing afterwards takes another 1 to 3 years.

  5. My opinion always has been: If you have a B1+ language certificate and can pass the Einbürgerungstest then why not be able to take on German citizenship?

  6. Speaking of easier emigration…well it all sounds very fine and dandy on Reddit, until you learned to read between the lines of your german work colleagues wenn they drank bunch of Biers on Herbstfest.Let’s just say that a lot of them are not so progressive as you may think 😕
