  1. HISTORY OF THE 36TH “VENIEC” /WREATH/ IN WILKES-BARRE, PENNA

Wreath 36, SKS in Wilkes-Barre, Pa, was founded on the 22th November 1911. One remaining founder is still alive, Maria Soltis.

Wreath 36 is nicely progressing and outside of our Sokol-related duties, which our code of rules requires of us, is also doing the work by supporting church and national bussinesses for the good of our Slovak nation.

In the year 1935 our older sisters created a theater group, which performed two theatre plays, “Bludár” (Wanderer) and “Rozmajrin” (Rosemary). Amateur actors really nailed their roles.

The /monetary/ gain was succesful, from which we gave one half to the church and one half to wreath’s cash box. With that gain the wreath bought 2 holy water fonts. Due to job-related factors the theater group ceased to exist.

In the year 1936, when the parish 7 was celebrating the silver jubilee, a member of the wreath, sister Františka Petro-Kunec, was crowned as queen.

During WW2 the sisters helped through the Red Cross, nurses, and we had a member who was a nurse in WACS. But the wreath did its duty when buying saving bonds.

We have a nice exercising group. The leaders of this group are: Rita Uličný, leader of the wreath, and Karolina Čižík, leader of the parish and member of the main technical council.

The wreath has a caring office, which makes decisions in favor and for the good of the wreath. It counts 276 members and congregation 164, which is under the authority of the wreath, counts 90 members.

The latest office of the wreath 36 and council 164 is as following: Helena Mizenko, administrator; Maria Susa, sub-administrator; Helena Stasik, secretary; Maria Honza, accountant; Maria Benz, treasurer; Anna Krehel, first supervisor; Anastazia Uličný, second supervisor; Rita Uličný, leader and Helena Stašík, administrator of the congregation 164 – God bless you!

    Helena Mizenko, administrator
