this sounds like some dream symbolics dictionary, whatever you see in your dream has some meaning described. dunno what’s it called in english, in cz it should be “Snář”, perhaps dream dictonary?
Yeah, this is “Snář” which is basically Dream dictionary. It is used to interpret your dreams.
It’s a dictionary for interpreting dreams. You wake up in the morning and look up things that happened in your dream to learn if that was good or bad omen. E.G. “BRVY vytrhávati” (to rip your eyelashes) means your relative will fall ill. (That’s specific!)
As books of somehow esoteric topics weren’t allowed to be published before the revolution, it was popular to spread them as samizdat. You got it from one friend, typewrited a copy and gave it to some other friend to do the same.
These are dreams interpretations, and obviously very old. There were such occult books which looked like a dictionaries where there were all the possible words and symbols alphabetically ordered and if you saw those in your dream then what you see in the description could be expected.
