Trinity College pulled Dalai Lama honour after Mary McAleese raised China fears

  1. That’s disappointing to hear.

China is like a petulant child that everyone is tiptoeing around in case they throw a tantrum. Ireland / Trinity shouldn’t be bowing to them at every opportunity.

  2. There was a story recently that said Russia paid out 300m in lobbying across the world, I’d love to know how much China has spent and how much has been spent in Ireland, the figure would dwarf Russia’s spending

  3. >A Trinity College Dublin committee rejected the nomination of the Dalai Lama for an honorary degree — after former president Mary McAleese, the Trinity chancellor, raised concerns about a “serious” backlash from the Chinese government.

That is a reason to go ahead with it. We should be antagonising them.

  4. Dalai Lama, a random unelected theocrat (why do they hate the Ayatollah of Iran but love him?) and CIA agent who once called Mao a father figure, laughs at the idea of female leaders and says refugees and other migrants are destroying Europe. Great lad aye, as long as the CIA says so

  5. Firstly, I don’t know why anyone listens to Mary McAllese.

Secondly, Trinity should be ashamed of this move. I don’t really care about the Dalai Lama. But allowing China to bully institutions in democratic nations into submission is a really bad path to go down.

It’s long past time we started viewing China as a hostile nation, on a par with Nazi Germany in it’s actions.

  6. For Trinity College, and other colleges, its all about the sweet sweet Chinese money. Must not upset chinese or they’ll cut off the flow.

They would sell their own mothers for some of that.

Especially disappointed at McAleese, she used to be a courageous figure now we all see her for what she has become.

  7. Why are we letting china have such sway over our colleges.

This is a massive threat to independence of thought and I really sont see why the colleges need to bend over backwards for a bit of extra cash.

  8. That there is incredibly embarrassing and why the fuck is McAleese getting that say ?

The question that should have been asked what can they do about it ? You know besides their embassy having a hissy fit and deploy their “Wolf diplomacy” 😂😂.

Fuck the CCP, fuck the CCP wolfwankers, fuck their 50c army and free Honk-Kong.

  9. Why do people put the Dalai Lama on such a pedestal?

It’s role traces back to the Mongol Khan’s who promoted the religious sect with their figurehead to control the region.

He’s a monarch, and frankly all monarchies should be abolished.

  10. Trinity college riding on it historical coattails- overrated. This is a suck up and for sale institution to Chinese money and frankly any other governments money. Complete financial whores.

  11. She’s correct.

The Dalai Lama is literally just a deposed feudal dictator who doubled as the head of religion. Tibet was a slave state where 98% were serfs whose lives were dictated by the whims of their masters in monasteries.

Those who disobeyed had their eyes gouged out or their hamstrings severed as punishment and to prevent them fleeing.

Fuck the Dalai Lama and his cult

  12. can’t have china stop sending their students over. They’re litteally commiting a genocide to the uyghur people. So this answers the question you have why no one wanted to stop the nazi treatment of jews

  13. Irish dairy and meat industry would have been hammered if China got pissy about this and stopped allowing imports. This move is to protect Irish farmers.

  14. I’ll add it to the hot or not feature ….

hot – the planet, property portfolios, impotent outrage

not – science, objectivity, sovereign countries
