The dft should have nationalised it ages ago it just keeps getting worse
Avanti have been utter shite for a while now. The latest for me was saying due to a change of timetable, no reservations were valid and they’d resold me seats twice. Seriously wtf are they playing at??
On that set of 4 journeys, all 4 were delayed and I got partial refunds. They seem totally fucked. Renationalise all of it asap.
Yeah never thought I’d see the day when I longed for Virgin Trains.
I am so fucking glad I don’t have to rely on public transport. What a shitshow.
Funnily enough despite everything there are still those who want to abolish personal transport. Good luck, you can ban petrol/diesel and I’ll simply convert my truck to run from a wood gasifier. No way am I relying on these idiots to get from A to B.
I use Avanti (well try to at least). Friday was a great example of how useless a company they are. I live in North Wales, which until Avanti had a 2 hourly service to London, but recently there isn’t anything direct – you have to get a transport for Wales train to Crewe.
This Friday I rocked up at the station for my usual 7am to Crewe and there was an Avanti train sat at the platform. It was on the boards at the station as direct to Euston – but not Avanti’s own app.
Hopped on it and by its final stop at rugby my coach has 6 people on it. Normally this train should be rammed – getting to London for 9.30 – but Avanti didn’t tell anyone it existed. The train manager said that control had no idea about the train – as she was checking tickets she took a call and had to explain to them the trains number, how many cars and where it was stopping – management had no idea it was running, so hadn’t sold any tickets for it.
3 of the return trains to Crewe that day were cancelled due to a lack of crew and I ended up on a 1970s train that the DfT had chartered because Avanti are so rubbish.
We’ve got that heritage train company running what’s normally a train enthusiast outing except it’s the main commuter service north from Euston to Manchester Piccadilly 5:30 on Fridays…
Avanti have done a terrible job of retaining the Virgin trains staff and this is the consequence. No one wanted Virgin to lose the franchise, the whole situation is ridiculous.
It’s fucking incredible how absolutely, completely, and utterly fucking shambolic the train situation is in the UK for a first world country. C’mon, this shit isn’t fucking hard…something something free market something something privatisation something something festering bag of wank
They deserve to lose the contract, what a complete shit show and the transport secretary nowhere to be seen.
I take the Chiltern line down to London now. Slower but the trains are nicer and they are rarely cancelled.
If you’ve used trains in Italy, you’ll know they are pretty good and also a hell of a lot cheaper than UK. TrenItalia is Italian government owned and runs Avanti along with FirstGroup. Our privatised system is broken if we’re getting other government owned companies failing to run them properly. Similarly EDF for energy, French state owned.
The UK is the worst place I have ever travelled by rail. The trains are decentish but the prices are fucking extortionate. Also due to travel this weekend and the cunts have had since 8th September to send out tickets and timetable
It seems every train I get north or south in the evening suddenly has to terminate at preston. The service is an utter joke
The two “direct” trains I got recently turned out not to be direct. Suddenly it’s a 20 minute wait at Crewe station meaning I get to London 30 minutes later than planned and back to Chester nearly an hour later. The connecting train on the way back at Crewe they told me about leaves 4 minutes before the train from London even arrives.
Also means the seat reservation isn’t valid in as I have to now change trains
The only upside was sticking myself into standard premium in both directions.
The guard wanted to charge me but after a long conversation with him where I explained what I had been given (ie trains that were slower with changes) was not in line with what I’d paid for. The app is still saying the trains are direct so he let me off the £25 upgrade
According to the station guy at Crewe Avanti haven’t been running direct trains to and from North Wales for weeks
So why the fuck are you selling tickets for direct trains then Avanti!!!
