These might be a solution in individual situations, but absolutely not a solution to the larger issue.
I believe Fingal County Council (or maybe DCC) did trial a modular house build somewhere in Dublin. My recollection is that it didn’t really work that well. It was a good deal more expensive than regular construction, and not a whole lot faster (8 months IIRC) than a traditional build. Which would be solving a different problem to ours.
Our problem, for the most part, isn’t an immediate short term housing need, but a longer term failure to build enough. It may be appropriate in more limited circumstances (say for Ukrainian arrivals, where time may be more pressing, or disaster relief situations), but not really a solution to the housing crisis.
