Football pundit Trevor Sinclair suspended from TalkSPORT for saying ‘black and brown’ people shouldn’t mourn the Queen because she allowed racism to thrive in Britain

  1. Yeah as an ethnic minority this is bollocks. I’m not in mourning but people can mourn whoever the fuck they want regardless of their race. Also the idea she was the reason for racism is laughable, she had basically zero impact on any political policies here. Priti Patel is more responsible for racism in the UK than the Royal family. I understand the colonial argument but it wasn’t the Queen insisting on hostile environments or making rivers of blood speeches.

  2. Couldn’t you also say in the same spirit, that we have made great progress in tackling racism under the queen’s rule, and therefore ‘black and brown people’ should mourn the queen?

I don’t believe either statement has much credibility however.

  3. But isn’t this ‘cancel culture’ that the right wing rail against?

That’s why I’ve always felt that this whole cancel culture thing is inflated. People generally don’t want to hear things they disagree with. The only thing changing is who has to do the listening.

  4. Considering the royal family lobbied for and succeeded in getting themselves excluded from anti discrimination laws in employment in regards to race and gender I’d suggest this is a lot closer to reality than people wish to believe

  5. Brown person from a former commonwealth nation here. I think his view is too simplistic. If people want to mourn (regardless of their ethnicity), it’s right they are able to. Personally, I’m not mourning her death because I’m a republican and don’t want us to have a monarchy – the queen didn’t really mean anything to me. On the enablement side, it’s part of the broader conversation about racism in the UK and the legacy of the British Empire, in my opinion. Did she lead colonialism? No. Did she take over countries and territories? No. Did she speak out about the negative impact of the British Empire on the violence and displacement of black and brown people in those countries and territories that were part of the empire? Not to my knowledge (if she did, I’d love to see this).

‘Silence is violence’ is a phrase you might have seen at protests. That’s how some people feel when we’re talking about racism and the monarchy (as an institution). The Queen was the Head of that institution, with such influence, being proactive in raising awareness of the wrongs of past which the Empire was built on would have been a huge move. Instead, we got to see modern-day enablement of racism within the institution. Stories of Meghan Markle being treated differently and how royals viewed Archie, Buckenham Palace not hiring black people, the Duke of Edinburgh’s long list of race-related fuck ups, continuing to deny allegations of racism without showing the work they are putting in against racism. The complacency bleeds into society in a very subtle and quiet way. Some people may treat black and brown people differently (or continue to treat them differently), others may have a wrapped view of the British Empire’s tainted history.

I personally think the blame isn’t pinned on just one person, but I do think that someone with such influence and power could change things. Charles has started talking about the past, which is good, but nobody knows how far he will go. To talk about the sadness of racism is one thing, to talk about the violence of an empire in which the fortunes of the Royal family was built on, is another.

  6. Surely racism went down massively during her reign? She was against thatcher who wanted to resist embargoing apartheid south Africa.

Trevor needs a broadening of perspectives.

  7. This frustrates me , anyone who regularly listens to talksport understands the situation as they will have heard Trevor talking nonsense on a regular basis. He is rude, arrogant and thinks that talking louder over somebody means you’ve won the argument. He cries racism at every chance, It’s painful listening to him mispronounce long words he doesn’t fully understand, constantly get things wrong and struggles to keep up with the conversation. Hes a known bully within footballing circles who ironically admitted racially abusing a police officer. But in Trevors mind it doesn’t count if it’s against a white person. Trevor is a straight up racist who is in constant need of attention. That’s all this tweet is. Talk about dividing people. Imagine Piers Morgan (not a fan) tweeting “after everything the queen did , blacks & brown must mourn.” …. We all know that’s being called racist. Don’t use something like the queens death to cause more tension and divide between people, we’re all just trying to get by.

  8. Ah, TalkSport.

“That was coverage of Arsenal vs Spurs, now we move on…immigrants! Are they stealing our jobs? Let’s take our first caller. Is that Dave from Romford, driving a white van on the M25?”

  9. I can see what point he’s trying to make about colonialism and how she personally was blessed with mind blowing wealth as a direct result of the racist subjugation of people who were see as lesser than the royals. However, because he’s thick as fuck, he’s not able to articulate himself in any meaningful way.

  10. Isn’t Prince Charles main Bodyguard, who we saw on TV when he was greeting the crowd coloured.

And the Queen’s Esquerry is a Black person. Royal Marines Major.

Thats 2 of the highest profile “jobs” for the Royal family, and they have hired people of colour. I personally feel they have come a long way from their colonial past. They still have some way to go though.

I know alot of Families in Britain who still don’t want their children marrying non whites, Indians, Muslims, Chinese and Black. The whole country still has a lot of work to do to overcome the Racism that is instilled from a young age, this will not happen in a Generation, but over a few Generations.

And to point, People of Colour can be Racist as well.

  11. Who is this person that’s not even fully black to speak on behalf of billions of people? Some people are so entitled, most Ghanaians in my family mourned for her death more than white Brits.

  12. What was she supposed to do to stop racism thriving exactly? People seem to forget the major point of her not allowed to interfere with anything.

  13. If anyone has listened to simon Jordan v Sinclair on talksport over past two years you’ll have realised how not very clever Sinclair really is (imo).

  14. Ah yes. Let’s listen about racism to the dickhead who was giving racist shit to the police officer who arrested him due to being twice over the blood alcohol level while driving.

  15. So he’s done well out of a country that’s allowed racism to thrive in it hasn’t he. If he was that bothered why did he take the money? Never heard such rubbish. So narrow minded and not thought out.

  16. Is this the bloke that thought he was allowed to be parked up in the middle of the road, after hitting a bystander, when he was drunk, and that any questioning from the Police was an act of racism?

It looks to me like he’s attempted to validate that previous error of judgement and say this, which again, seems to have backfired.

  17. Who is he to tell people what they should think or feel based on their skin?

    >houldn’t mourn the Queen because she allowed racism to thrive in Britain

She allowed? Thats an interesting use of the word allow… but he works for TalkSPORT so i can’t imagine he grasps even the basic understanding of history, meaning of words like “allow” and constitutionality.

If anything is helping racism “thrive” it is ignorant people like him.

  18. They have as much right as anyone else to mourn the Queen should they so choose. I think it interesting to discover how emotional I and many others I know who didn’t expect to be affected have been. I don’t think I would have filed past the coffin even had that been physically possible, but I found myself seriously thinking about a trip to London. Overall I think the Queen was a positive influence on the UK, I’m much less certain about the rest of her family, but neither could I stomach a political figure such as Trump, overall I think that would be even more divisive

  19. It’s an absolutely ridiculous thing to say!! She did everything in her power to promote Diversity. Lying will never help your cause.

  20. Basically the political equivalent of getting medical advice from an anti-vax wine mom. Meaningless drivel.
