It could just be a European hornet. They are freaking huge and quite intimidating, until you realize they really don’t want to bother you. They start to pop up more often this time of the year, I’ve already seen 4 at my place near Beggen. No harm done, they just want to get out and be on their way. Unlike their much smaller cousins, the common wasp. Those guys can all burn for all I care.
EDIT* Look at the article linked below, that shows the ones you need to report, they have yellow legs. In the pics you posted I don’t see yellow legs, likely just the normal hornet.
One of these came in our apartment and I started hitting it with the remote control against the table. I gave it 4-5 strong blows, mf flew out like nothing happened.
Its a European one not Asian seeing it has reddish neck. Killing a few in your house is fine. A nest cant be destroyed unless it poses a risk, such as, near a playground, on your balcony etc. An Asian one is a bit bigger and has a different head shape
yo let it in, don’t be rude
Seems like European hornet. European hornet are the biggest, they are brown/ginger on the top of the head and the top of the body, then yellow/black. They are also less aggressive than Asian hornet.
Asian hornet are a little less big, they are aggressive and they are like wasp full yellow/black with less fur.
Broo I once accidentally left my window open with the lights on at night, and that thing flew into my room 😭😭
Asian hornets have quite distinctive yellow legs
Best use inaturalist.lu app or website to report the sighting. You’ll should get an expert to validate the observation relatively quickly.
Data will also end up with the concerned authorities and scientists.
I’ve seen 4 this year alr. One was in Schouweiler, one in dippach, one in rodange and one in the city. Watch out cuz getting stung by these mfs hurts like a bitch
Its an european one;) the asian one has a different color and isnt much bigger ( ofc the asian GIANT hornet is nightmarefuel). So hornets are actually protected in say germany ( in some states you have to pay a fine if you kill them or worse destroy a nest ). Their sting isnt much more poisonous than bees or wasps but more painful due to containing acetylcholine). Hornets arent a meal disturbing nuisance like wasps , they dont show interest in human food and mostly eat other insects (like wasps). Also hornets are less aggressive tham wasps… I admit having a minor anxiety attack when finding this thing in bathroom. The worst thing you could is approach a colony of hornets. Also, hornets are active at night, whereas wasps arenot. Keep that in mind, i had some situations when eating with friends when it was dark lol. But its a gentle giant – dont disturb it, should be fine.
You shouldn’t kill it. They are protected. Hornets are intimidating but not agressive until provoked. They need dry wood for nest building, that’s why they are often found near dead wood or wooden playgrounds. Just like wasps they love alcool, sugar and fruits, but also meat. So having a bbq near the woods with beer and sausages will guarantee wasps and hornets as visitors. To reduce the risks cover everything up and leave a bottle of beer as a gift like 2m away from your spot. No magic, but that’s what we do.
Fox News : the murder hornets are back. Only great leader trump can save you
I‘ve found 4 giant black wasps so far this year and I‘m terrified.
