Chunks of the country where it’s legal for businesses to pay in scrip. Thank god we let the charter cities institute make policy, I’ve always wanted to have my relationship with my employer be more like the employer-employee relationships in Honduras.
The concept of Charter Cities and deregulation should terrify everyone. Corporations have shown time and time again they will not do the right thing, they will not treat workers as humans. They need to be kept in line. This concept is utterly dystopian and terrifying and should be strongly opposed.
Deafening silence from the usual sycophants, because they think it won’t happen to them.
Also worth mentioning that the Government are considering that Charter Cities will be able to create their own environmental regulations and their emissions would no longer be considered part of the UK’s Contribution.
This was touted as a great boost to the UK’s Climate Change plan to environmental officers who attended a consultation on Charter Cities. When someone asked if the Environment Agency will still have powers to penalise polluters. The answer was ‘we are looking into innovative ways to manage environmental regulation, including allowing the EA to serve as an advisory body to locally created regulatory boards’.
Nutters. It’s like having a cult in charge. No matter how many times their free-market fundamentalism fails, they still push it through because of who’s paying them.
I hate this stupid fucking country.
Love this idea.
We need to take few lessons in business from the Irish.
Their gdp per capita is literally twice ours.
Poor nations like Britain need to start copying the more rich successful ones like Ireland.
This stuff is just victorian economics. Let’s just bring back child labour as well and it’ll be done.
Ah, “Enterprise Zones” are back again.
If anyone isn’t keeping up, this is a policy that emerges every decade from the 1960s on. Last time was 2012 under Lib-Con.
They only ever worked once: the London Docklands. Everywhere else, they just sucked money, jobs and business away from surroundings towns with zero net benefit.
Same old well-worn tired political hits for the diehard fans.
So this is basically capitalist Hamsterdam right? Instead of doing your shady shit offshore you can do it in a block of warehouses near Watford?
Can we please hurry up and get rid of these complete idiots.
Low tax = Higher Executive Pay & Dividends + Public Service Cuts.
Usually served with a side of reduced worker rights.
This policy did not come out of thin air, and the aim is certainly not to make the life of ordinary people easier.
We are about to see this government use Britannia Unchained as their bible to govern this country.
OF COURSE Andy Street, chief legalized corruption officer’s west midlands will be one of them. Fuck getting desperate people out of ghettos full of moldy post war pre fab houses, tax cuts and a planning free for all is OBVIOUSLY going to help the poor!
Literally V for Vendetta. Yet you can’t point out the move towards fascism without people telling you you’re being dramatic.
If these are charter cities, fuck them.
I’m going to wait until the full details are announced before I pass judgment, because if its tax and planning regulations being reduced and not workers rights and safety then I’m optimistic.
This party and their policies are disastrous for this country
Westminster, Surrey, Somerset, Norfolk.. where is Kwasi’s seat again?
Every time a Tory prime minister gets kicked out, their successor is even worse!
This is going to be a disaster. Just a way to make rich richer. Good luck finding spot and being able to afford to move to such a zone if you are a small or medium business.
Of course, the friends of the party will get the spots and unfair competitive advantage over our companies who couldn’t for any reason get into such zone.
If they actually think such low-tax zone is a good idea, then why not make it available for everyone?
Morons.
A chance for companies to do as they please under the guise of investment in the local area, what is good for them will not be good for people or the environment. We should be moving away from capitalism, not giving companies more power and less oversight. They are partly the reason why society is so unequal and facing the issues it is, they should be clamped down on, not given free reign to do as they please.
I think it’s the right time to stop paying ever higher PAYE taxes and start saving all the difference.
I wish they would just have the title…Conservative Cunt has another bad idea…
It would save the Journalism sector a fortune! 🤔
Everything is fine, it’s just setting structures in place so that we’re prepared and strong when the war between Eurasia and Eastasia begins.
Don’t worry, we’ll all be able to release any anxieties we may be experiencing during the Hates.
This guy has such a punchable face. Is it a requisite for being a Tory chancellor? Honestly, we’ve had Osborne, Hammond, Sunak, YouGov dude, and now Kwarteng. You could make a fortune on punching bags with their faces printed on it.
Literally a scam, there are ways and even as somebody on the left I must admit quite good proposals from right of centre think tanks to effectively abolish corporation tax without losing the revenue. Instead we get this absolute nonsense
