Hello, does anyone know if there are any laws regarding the state of your ID card?
I really need a Polish bank account before this Friday, but the bank I visited (Millennium) said they can not accept my ID card
The teller was playing around with it, making the crack bigger and saying it’s not accepted.
It was accepted at the airport and at the municipal office when registering my residency.
Do you think this was a bank teller having a bad day or I’m screwed and shouldn’t even try other banks?
Go to a different bank. Nuff said.
It’s the same thing as them giving people a hard time over pen marks on US dollars. Happened to me before, and the teller could not offer a logical explanation as to why not.
I guess it’s russian-sounding name, not just the cracked ID…
Well, your id card will be valid in all state institution and airport systems as long as they can read the chip, but banks can not enter those data so they identify you visually. They won’t accept damaged id card, even if damage seems minimal and unimportant for identification purpose. you need passport.
You should be able to create a mObywatel account and than just show your phone with the ID card and be fine.
Try opening account online. Verification software probably won’t care about the crack
Update, thanks everyone!
I went to a Santander branch in the morning and was quickly helped with opening a bank account.
Loved the service and would definitely recommend them to others as well.
I told the teller about the crack before handing them my ID card to ask if it’s fine, they showed it to someone more knowledgeable and it was not a problem.
