Hi guys, I have been wanting to visit Austria for a very long time and finally decided to take a trip to Austria by the end of November along with my friend. We know there won’t be many activities happening during this time but we wanted to experience the advent markets. This is the tentative plan that we have and will be flying there from US:
\- 23/11 – 24/11 [Vienna](https://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g190454-Vienna-Vacations.html) (2 nights – see the advent markets and roam around a bit)
\- 25/11-26/11 take a train to [Innsbruck](https://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g190445-Innsbruck_Tirol_Austrian_Alps-Vacations.html) and spend 2 nights there, stay near Seefeld
\- 27/11-29/11 go to [Salzburg](https://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g190441-Salzburg_Austrian_Alps-Vacations.html) and spend 3 nights there, maybe take a day trip to Hallstatt or Wolfgang
\- 30/11-1/12 take the train to [Munich](https://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g187309-Munich_Upper_Bavaria_Bavaria-Vacations.html) and spend 2 nights here. Just strolling thru the city.
\- 2/12 -> fly back
We are planning to eat mostly in the advent markets and travel using public transport. We are not into skiing in particular but would like to try snowshoeing. We love scenic views and cute towns. So I wanted to ask you the following:
\- If there should be any modifications made to the plan, add or remove places
\- Best places to visit, like small towns that are not overly crowded by tourists.
\- Best activities/ experiences that we must try?
\- If anyone can share any pictures taken during this time period, it would be great. Can’t find much online.
\- Would there be snow?
\- Any recommendations, or local insights would be highly appreciated!
Thank you!

So I have a great fun fact about Munich that I love to share with people who come to visit Austria and it’s that Munich is not actually party of Austria.
For Salzburg:
Definitely visit the fortress, you can get there either by foot or by cable car and you will have a nice overview over the city.
Another nice place to visit would be Maria Plain just north of Salzburg.
If you enjoy hiking, Nockstein is a mountain that is fairly chill, about a two hour hike during the warmer months. You should do some research on snowshoe viability though, since I’ve never done it.
Alternatively the Gaisberg and Untersberg are located very close to Salzburg, but especially the Untersberg is probably too dangerous during the winter. I think you can go to both summits either by bus or gondola.
Generally speaking the old town of Salzburg is generally worth visiting and it will be hard to not go there during your stay 🙂
Advent markets are generally very price, you won’t be scammed but be aware of paying up to 5€ for 0.2l of Glühwein
Overall sounds a bit stressful, but doable. A few comments:
Typical weather in the cities around that time would be foggy, rainy and windy. Maybe some snowflakes that melt immediately. Also on the countryside you’d probably have to go up a mountain to be sure to see snow.
Maybe consider taking a night train to Innsbruck, saves time and the price would be similar to a hotel.
Advent market are both hard on the wallet and stomach, just keep that in mind.
Public Transport in and between the cities is fine, on the countryside might have to plan ahead.
For tips for the cities you can also check the subs wikis /r/wien is quite comprehensive.
I would really recommend to check out the advent market in Sankt Wolfgang, really lovely!
