Seems to be from the era when Russia still used to be part of Finland
He departed 1917 from Oslo, Norway referred to by its old name Christiania in the travel documents.
Also worth noting that there are signs written in German in the background putting him in the European theater. That would likely date the winter photo to winter 1944, after D day June 6th that year.
