  1. I believe those are called “ristipistotyö” or just “ristipisto”. They do seem somewhat old-fashioned, something that old people have in their homes.

  2. It’s called ristipisto. It has become more popular in recent years under the topic “radikaalit ristipistot”. In the olden days grannies made these with like bible verses, the alphabet and pictures of flowers and birds and suchlike. The modern thing is to make one with some kind of message, maybe with curse words and extra sarcasm.

  3. Since you’ve already received actual and helpful replies, I’ll just add my two cents 😀 As an avid pixel art fan, these are like og pixel art in my eyes.

Edited to add: yes, these are mostly something elderly folks enjoy putting up on the walls. Not very insanely popular amongst younger people but I’ve seen some crafty people my age (25-30) get into this craft these days.

  4. Most likely their grannies or grannies they know own/owned this type of art for them to say that. (or someone just called it granny art wgile they were listening and it imprinted in their minds as such.)

Here’s a detailed explanation as to why: https://youtu.be/vjqt8T3tJIE
