>“He once phoned me up in exasperation that he was being totally taken for granted by his publishers,” his friend Dave Busby told me. “He was fuming. He had had enough. He was going to take a sabbatical. No more writing for at least six months. I felt very pleased for him. He needed that break. I think he planned to do a lot of travelling. I did not hear from him for about six months and when we made contact again, I asked him what he had done in his sabbatical. He replied, irritably, ‘I wrote two books.’”
GNU Terry Pratchett’
I’ve been gradually working my way through Discworld over the last few years and during almost every book there’s a moment of genius. Sometimes it’s the humour or the wit, sometimes it’s the characters or the philosophy behind the story. Some of the subplots (DEATH, the witches and the Watch in particular) are so relaxing to read. Like sitting next to a logfire with a nice cup of tea. Helps the insomnia.
Pre-ordered the autobiography, looking forward to reading it

It’s coming up to a year sine my uncle died age sixty, and it’s this motherfucker that claimed his life. I hated what Alzheimer’s did to him. Genuinely hated.

It’s strange to miss someone you never met, but damn do I miss him sometimes. I’m not a tattoo person but I’ve considered a discworld tattoo on more than one occasion. I’m certainly a better person for having read Pratchett’s work.
Met him once. Lovely man and his thoughts on the page are treasures I’ll return to for years to come.
He is my absolute favourite author. Got sent my first Pratchett book, Reaper Man, from my biological “dad” in a rare birthday present when I was 9 or 10. He also sent a Piers Anthony book which was utter gash.
I fell in love with Pratchett and one of my biggest joys has been passing that love down to my kids, particularly my eldest daughter. We read Where’s My Cow Together so often it was falling apart at the seams! My son and I just started the Bromeliad together as well and it’s just a delight.
I had to take a half day from work when he died I was so torn up. Still haven’t opened my copy of Shepherds Crown either, because once I read that then there’s no more Terry Pratchett left for me to read.
GNU Sir Terry Pratchett.
