Meath couple whose house was due to be demolished secure temporary reprieve

  1. I wish I had that kind of confidence, or connections. Imagine pouring all that money into building a house that size without planning permission. It could be taken away from you at any minute. And then you manage to sleep soundly in it for 15 years.

How could they be that confident that they’d be granted retroactive permission. And how did they get a mortgage on a house without it having planning permission. Was this guy Berties plumber or something?

  2. Looks like the dopey cunts went with the usual stunt of just building it anyway and then getting retention basically on the grounds of “Well, since it’s up now it’d just be a waste to have to tear it down”, not knowing about this section 47.

But whether this section 47 turns out to be applicable in their case or not doesn’t change the fact that they built without permission in the first place.

  3. I’ve heard of some bullshit reasons for people being rejected by councils for planning permission but to have the gall to build a house anyway and somehow think that you’re in the right.

It is a very very nice house though, will be a shame to see it knocked.

  4. May as well let them keep it another few years until the housing crisis improves (hopefully). Letting them keep it for 15 years and then demolishing it now would be terrible optics.

  5. Well seems they had the money, and it isn’t horrible, then imagine you just say fckit skip on paying whatever 30grand to have it done properly, and then dread for 15 years that one day you’ll be homeless.

  6. Just fuck them. I don’t see how anyone can have sympathy for this shite.

Read the article. They already fought it and lost out and agreed to leave it.

They *settled* the case and now say there is “new evidence.”

In a planning enforcement. It’s not a fucking bombing…any evidence they thought was relevant would have been known to them since they fucking built it. Probably going to end up as some accusation about not being properly represented at the time….

  7. In any country with a functioning legal system the house would have been knocked long ago, and the scumbags saddled with the bill instead of the taxpayer.

  8. Surely if the house is soundly built it should be put to use housing people who need it, you could give several families a home in each wing of it
