  1. Can someone ELI5

How do investigations like this spiral so much in cost?

Officer Plod and Mark just do some police work and interview people, if there is evidence charge.. what am I missing?

  2. I’d be pretty pissed by this choice of headline and picture if I were Starmer. Anyone not too informed would think after a glance that this is a scandal he caused himself and which I cost tax payers.

  3. I’ve already commented on another sub about this…

In short, that figure is absolute nonsense.

The investigation was with a team of 9 officers for a period of time. They’ve then calculated the amount it’s cost to have that team on duty for that length of time. It doesn’t account for the fact that this is one (very minor) investigation for a team that will have had a huge workfile of other ACTUAL crimes they will have been investigating at the same time. That’s not taken into account with the calculation.

Using their calculation, an ABH I’m investigating and has been on my workfile for about 6 weeks has cost the public about 6k. That would be complete nonsense because I’ve done about 101 other things at the same time.

  4. Purely due to the Tories doing anything they could to try and score points against Labour. Idiots.

  5. Send the bill to dacre for wasting police time. Imagine if you had a burglary in Durham and no one was bothering to visit or investigate due to lack of resources

  6. If he was found to be guilty: shame on labour, double standard
He has found to be not guilty: shame on labour, wasting money on things they know is meaningless

  7. All partygate had to do was ask one of the officers standing right outside number 10 all day and the Met still dragged their feet and only fined Johnson for one of them…

  8. The corrupt and treacherous former leader of the Con Party tried to smear his leading political opponent using over £100k of our fucking money. Why is our media so scared of calling them out, in language the average Brexit supporter would understand.

  9. Beergate played so beautifully into Starmer’s hands.

He managed to look like a man of principle while showing Boris up.

It got him a lot more name recognition (people don’t say “who’s that?” as much anymore).

It also made him seem like a much more normal person than before (a bloke who likes a beer and a curry).

    CCHQ played themselves.

  10. I could have done it for free…were you having a meal break at work? … laws “Allowed to have a meal break at work” .. BOOM!

It’s insane what you can do when you’re not corrupt as sin!

  11. Nowhere in that story does it mention **Conservative MP Richard Holden** who was the guy who insisted the police should investigate this despite being fully aware there was no case to answer. He is the guy who caused this shocking waste of public money and should be brought to account.

    The headline should read:

    >Tory MPs ‘beergate’ inquiry cost police £101,000

  12. How much have the tories cost the country? In the 12 years they’ve ruled.
Let’s start with the cost to the economy when they failed to defend our steelworks by vetoing anti-dumping legislation.
I can guarantee a least 50% of the problems in the country can be traced back to their incompetence!
