  2. This is actually the most significant of the many recent excercises. A good sized logistics element for two months. These kind of excercises are what lay down the long term basics for a situation where US Marines were to actually take part in defending Finland.

  3. I mean, it’s good to get some experience at the latitudes and climates of North Eastern parts of Russia. Definitely during the Autumn and Winter.

  4. I don’t know what they’re doing in Finland, but I was in the US Marines years back. We used to go to Norway for mountain training. Cold weather/televard skiing/stuff like that. There was no amphibious assault component unless you count us riding the LCACs in from the ships to the beach. IOW it was 100% about us learning from Norwegian forces.

    That was something the USMC did annually for many years. I have to wonder if this isn’t a way to raise the amount of troops that get to participate and/or a way to just be that much closer to Putin’s face while doing so.
