This is fantastic news!!! But now going forward, we need to also increase awareness that men can also be victim of domestic violence. Women can be the abuser and it’s always a bias view of a woman being the victim in the media. I understand the stats but it doesn’t eliminate the fact that the men can be victims too (I’m a woman FYI).
Also there’s so many types of domestic abuse, not just physical but there’s emotional and financial.
I am thrilled with this step forward however but more needs to be done.
Edit: also an extremely big step forward for carers “These include a right to request flexible working arrangements for caring purposes, for parents and carers; a right to leave for medical care purposes, both for employees with children up to age 12 and carers”
As a family carer I’ve already made it very clear to my employer, if my brother needs me to be at home to care for him on a certain day I will work from home. Now we’ve laws to back us up, as well as medical
Purposes. He can get some bouts of bad sickness and at least this will allow me to have paid leave to be with him.
So overall a major step forward for all but awareness needs to continue for all victims of DV and for carers. Vulnerable people in Ireland shouldn’t have to constantly battle for basic rights.
>The Bill will bring in a range of measures to improve family-friendly work practices and support women in the workforce.
This is great news but why are things like this always inclusive to women, or at least this is what this appears to be, I could be wrong.
**Edit: Rereading it and it doesn’t actually say for sure whether it is for women only, but more so the article is written in a way that would suggest so. I’d imagine this is intentional from the author to get clicks.**

This piece will help so many people too. Most good workplaces will already allow for some flexibility anyway but it’s good that it’s becoming law.
