It seems like the more the country is advanced and educated the lower the percentage of cultural chauvinists.
Who are we, or any country for that matter, to say that any culture is superior to others? What exactly is a “superior” culture? To me this just seems like a question of cultural pride
LOL
In my eyes we should have more “yes” votes simply because of our history and heritage, current events are for future polls (in advance the votes would be “no” I would say) so “no” votes due to current events should be N/A.
I disagree with being superior to other countries, however, due to the fact that every country is in its way, beautiful and unique, with its historic architecture, nature and such.
We in general need to be proud of our history and heritage and what people have done and how they died just so we could be a republic and just even being part of the world as a country in general.
As a foreigner..can a Maltese person explain to me what is Maltese culture?
>Any man who must say *I am the King*, is no true king.
As a nation we have always welcomed anyone, and when people are in need, we are very generous (charity wise). The problem is that as a culture, we have been told for 40 odd years, that we are a nation, we have fought the “invaders”, and now we are on our own, and we have to built (metaphorically, not in the crane sense of the word 🙂 ),our nation, with our blood, sweat and tears, then all of a sudden slightly before entering the EU, refugees started coming in by boats, once we joined the EU the problem increased of foreigners (of any colour and ethnicity) coming in. And we were told by our politicians (irelevant which party or colour), that now we have to see ourselves not any more as Maltese, but as citizens of the World. As any culture change it will take another 30 – 40 odd years to become accepted. That is why foreigners (of any colour and ethnicity), sometimes encounter people who tell them to “Go back to your country hiiiiii”. But I do not believe that we Maltese feel superior to anyone, on the contrary… we have a huge inferiority complex, but slightly slightly the upcoming generations are reducing it. On another note, maybe foreigners see us as an angry bunch sometimes, because we talk loud, and gesticulate a lot with our hands, but for us maltese, that is not fighting, but normal way of talking. Infact if you go around mediterrean countries you can see this kind of attitude, sicilians, cypriots, greeeks etc. For someone who asked “What is the Maltese culture?”, I can summarize in a few words, Friendship, Football (both local, and foreign), Kazini (local band clubs, local political party club) ,Religion, Festas, Food, Pepe (people who talk half english, half maltese), hamalli (red necks Maltese way), fireworks, sea trade and biggest of All POLITICS. (Just mention the words, Mintoff, Eddie, Neriku Mizzi, Alfred Sant, Joseph, Lawrence Gonzi, and they would Adore you or HATE you 😉 )
greeks are real patriotic wow
