  1. in Switzerland lots of people have no idea what flag it is and just associate it with Country Music

  2. I know the owner of the car (as being a customer of him) – he is actually quite nice (though me being a foreigner).
But no, we never spoke politics.

  3. The only bad in the photo is you taken it. Is disrespectful taking photos of others car or property without permission. More if you are looking inside.

  4. I’ve not lived in America for about a decade, but when I lived there last, this would not have been unusual outside of the big, liberal cities. It’d be downright common in the South + Texas. People in the former Confederacy will tell you it celebrates generally the values of rural lifestyle, etc. (I don’t want to mis-characterise it — please do your own research), and not necessarily racism / support for slavery. Of course, this wouldn’t preclude them from holding some views that the typical redditor would call racist.

  5. People are free to have an opinion. Problem is when a lot of people share the same stupid opinion. As long as they stay a minority, I am ok with that. On the other hand, people being stupid make others look really clever

  6. Loads of “Rock n Roll” Boomers have these. Part of what they think makes America cool and “Rebell”. Add a few motorcycles and bbq. voila.

  7. The number of Dixie flags on houses and cars here has really shocked me. Especially since before coming to Switzerland I lived in the south of the US and the flag is a pretty clear message.

  8. There is a motorcycle shop that sells a confederate flag helmet in Zurich. I’m not sure they know what it means but they look like an idiot.

  9. My first thought was: „What is so special about the flag of Norway being in the nack of the car. I mean, it’s right next to Swedzerland.“

  10. Yeah, there are also lots of car enthusiasts using the Japanese rising sun flag. I’ve always wanted to ask them why….

  11. I’m moving to Europe from the southern US and you’re telling me I still have to see this fucking flag everywhere?

  12. We were coming home from somewhere and i saw someone having the confederate flag on a pole in their yard

I was in a sleepy state so i looked around to make sure we were in swizerland and not in alabama

  13. My friends inlaws thought it would be funny to have a General Lee golf cart. They had no idea it was racist. When someone advised them, they changed it to their national flag colors with flags. *sigh* which now in retrospect has its own inadvertent connotation, which wasn’t their intention.

  14. Last week at school I saw someone with a hoodie with a Gadsen flag on it where the snake spirals around a Fasces. I was both confused and surprised, I still haven’t understood what it meant.
