On this day 26 years ago: Following the murder of Tassos Isaac, Solomos Solomou was murdered by Turkish politician Kenan Akin.

1. In 2008, the European Court of Human Rights found the Turkish government guilty of violating Solomou’s right to life and for failing to conduct an effective investigation into the circumstances in which he was killed.

   We remember and honour their memories.

2. Outrageous action. I was around 7 yrs old and vividly remember the image/video of him climbing the flag pole and being shot. Makes my blood boil

5. You can argue that he was foolish to try climbing that pole.

   But you could also argue that only a psychopath would shoot a human being for climbing a pole (or for lowering a flag).

   As long as people like that are in positions of power (on both sides) we can’t achieve peace and reunification.

   That man tried to remove the Turkish Flag/TRNC flag by climbing to flag pole. That flag represents the blood of the Turkish people that you EOKA pricks spilled. It is very natural for him to get shot. Don’t try stupid shit, don’t get killed simple.
