Any chance of the labour party actually helping out middle earners? How about that middle tax bracket, any chance of pushing that threshold higher?
Middle earners are almost completely ignored by politicians these days. It’s obsessions with the super rich, or the very poor.
So they should. Absolutely no need whatsoever to scrap it. Nobody earning 150k+ is struggling unless they’ve made some very poor financial decisions. All this does is help out their mates.
If they really wanted to help, they could have lowered the tax to 18% and raised the 40% band to 55 or 60k.
Annual minimum wage or below? 0% tax. Next £50k, 20% tax. Between that figure and the PM’s salary, 40% tax. Earn more than the PM? 50% tax. Feels fair to me.
They should have just raised it, not scrapped it.
Why not just make it over like £250k, so those who are on like £5m aren’t getting a 5% tax cut
They should continue to push up the tax free allowance, push the 40% rate up to £150k+ and increase it to 50%+.
Growth comes from the bottom.
Surely there should be calls for a general election to be called it’s absolutely bollocks having this unelected cunt in charge who’s sole purpose is to pillage the nation and appease her super rich buddies until she inevitably gets kick out.
Tory’s have no chance next election, Truss has already made so many awful policy decisions that even a lot of Tory voters will hate.

The UK doesn’t need more tax on well paying jobs. It needs more well paying jobs to exist in the first place.

Labour needs to go full-force on attack-the-rich as a campaigning approach. It’s easy to whip the population into a blame-frenzy and Tory’s have done it for years blaming benefits cheats, immigrants, and the poor for all the country’s problems.
Truss has handed an opportunity to go all out against the 1 percent, so run with it in an extreme way. Labour will force billionaires to pay more tax! Labour will force big business to pay a fair share of tax on profits!
It’s an easy marketing opportunity.
We need a Tax reform not some and do away with this nonsense. What planet is he on?
What winds me up is that I don’t see how reducing tax burden for the richest will even help the economy. They are far more likely to l move that money offshore than the average citizen. A double tax cut for the richest is disgusting.
Make the basic rate tax cut 1% + whatever the 5% additional tax rate cut is forecast to cost the taxpayer is surely fairer
I agree with this, more for the message it sent than the cost to the economy. It was only 5% of the cost of this weeks budget.
Liz Truss just got rid of the election winning guru Lynton Crosby to replace with a losing one I’m afraid Labour will be charge after the next election.

I read that the tax take actually increased when they cut the top rate from 50% to 45% – anyone find the data around this?
Labour wants to fix the economy, the Conservatives only want to fix their bank accounts by short selling the pound on the stock market (ie. betting it goes down).
Labour are fucking useless. Every time they get in the country is in an even worse state. They all look like they sleep under a subway as well which is surprising as they are all as rich as the conservatives… All politicians are out for themselves and don’t give a shit about the people. We will never have a true representative of the people because you have to go to Oxford or Cambridge lol. All these twats are at the same schools… Maybe we should go backwards and have the king rule us!
