Basically I’m getting sick if seeing dead animals on the road particularly foxes near the N1/M50 after Whitehall. I see 2 a week sometimes 3 and wondered if anything can be done to help.
Would it be a massive cost to get something like this put in? If it was a success there perhaps could be implemented elsewhere in the country.
Can anyone suggest any animal charities that might help raise funds?
Or know of a new road about to be built that this could be done on instead of one already in use?
Was thinking about reaching out to Orchard Thieves as it’s mostly foxes I see killed there they might like a bit of attention for supporting something like this.
There’s a pedestrian crossing in Cherry Orchard.
No, I don’t know of any. I saw them when I way in the Netherlands recently and have been looking out for them since. They are so essential. I too am devastated when I see house pets, foxes, badgers, crows, rabbits split open on the roads with each and every journey.
Orchard Thieves is a great idea, I’ll do the same when I have spare time. Could make it into a letter campaign.
Should really be the government doing it now I think about it.
Not very common in Ireland, but they do exist. There’s a wildlife bridge over the motorway between Gort and Tuam. Beneath the N20 in Cork, there are supposed to be numerous culverts in and around Blackpool, to allow for Otters to move between the rivers without crossing the busy road
If I would have to bet on it, I’d say they only exist in locations where some major development was chiseled into a natural landscape. Some environment pittance to keep the planning board sweet.
Which, btw, isn’t to say I think they exist at every such location. This is FFG run Ireland, after all.
