Truss risks killing the economy – and the Tory party

  1. Whatever happens. They are going to leave labour picking up the pieces as if the uk was Chernobyl but without any protective gear. And I can almost picture all the sun and dailyMail reporters sharpening their pens at the ready…. They will pummel labour within the first 32 hrs. Almost like what they did with harry with in 32 hrs of her maj’s death…

  2. The Tory party will never die, we’ll just keep voting them in at this stage till we are all done for

  3. Tory party is already dead. They’re just owners of the store until removed and asset striping now.

  4. but they are making their mates richer, its a smash and grab of cash. They been doing it for years now. They will get voted out, kier will get voted in…. and change nothing, just do it more stealthy. like blair. new-labour/tory-lite will keep it going, and then the tories will get voted back in and NOTHING WILL CHANGE!

  5. Is there actually any policy they announced that might create any real growth? Seems other than them saying they want growth, they’re not actually doing anything that would bring any, despite that obscene borrowing and tax cuts.

  6. She doesn’t care. Now the party feel like they’re on their last term they’re trying to grab whatever cash they can to enrich themselves and their friends, and leave the next government to pick up the tab (and pieces)

  7. Who knows – maybe this will be the first time ever trickle down economics will improve the economy!

Spolier: It won’t, it never will, because its not meant to improve the economy.

  8. Best outcome for the tories at this point would be call a GE, lose, then blame everything on labour, then come back into power 5 years down the line on the promise of fixing labours mistakes.

  9. Give it 5 years of public relations and the Tories will have enough people thinking they’ve changed and can be trusted again. On goes the cycle imagined democracy.

  10. Both of these things cannot be true. If the Conservative Party causes a massive recession, during which already wealthy people will do their usual thing of using cash on hand to buy up even more assets, then the Conservative Party as an institution will thrive. Who wouldn’t donate generously to fund an organisation that allowed them to be so rich?

  11. Well, she’s done things ‘differently’ things since coming into power (the word in quotes there can be changed according to your political leanings).

The thing that gets me is that there is no democratic *mandate* for any of those changes. The general public didn’t vote her in on that platform of tax cuts – only the Conservative Party members.

Which, if one was cynical, sounded a lot like “hey, rich peeps – vote for me to become leader, and I’ll make you all significantly better off” – essentially buying her way into office whilst totally ignoring the tax burden on the vast majority of the electorate, because they didn’t *need* to be bribed, as they had no say in the outcome.

  12. Its actually refreshing that Truss is completely honest about how awful she and her party are. They’re not even trying to hide it at this point.

  13. Well done Tories it only took 12 years to destroy the country. Are you pleased with yourself? Having fun are you?
    Imbeciles

  14. She probably understands that they won’t win in 2024, so they decided to just do all the things that are unpopular and lose them votes whilst they still have a majority.

  15. I’m sorry, but there’s no chance the Tories are dying. They’ve absorbed any challenge from the right and ensured there are like 10 liberal parties to vote from.

  16. It would be amazing if after Truss destroys the Conservative party it’s revealed that ~~she’s Keyser Söze~~ she never left the Lib Dems.

  17. The economy is already dead she’s kicking the can making the suffering last longer. It needs to be allowed to crash unfortunately they can’t fix this mess….. be mad at the government but you should hate the banks more

  18. I would like to see the Tory party split into two. One being the extreme version that follows Truss and one that merely models what Tories used to be, sensible fiscal policy, lower taxes etc.

I’d then like to see both of them get buried in the next GE
