Alan Rickman’s secret showbiz diaries: the late actor on Harry Potter, politics and what he really thought of his co-stars

  1. Wouldn’t expect this level of tabloid tosh from the Guardian.

    Diaries are private. Don’t invade the private lives of people, it’s immoral. If he wanted this stuff to be known he would have published it while living.

  2. >13 December
    >HP. LAST DAY?
    >7am pick-up Last scene with Pedja [actor Predrag Bjelac] who I rudely described as [like] working with a sideboard on wheels. Nothing to do with him as a (complex, delightful) person but more to do with the way he manages to bang into you at any opportunity.

    This made me laugh. Might have to steal that analogy off him at some point in the future.

  3. “Stayed in and watched the Brits. Liam Gallagher is a great rock singer but an absolute tosser as a person.” hehe.

  4. I’m not one for buying autobiography’s or Dairies, but for £20 I’ll get this one, Alan Rickman was a good actor, from Die Hard to Harry Potter.

  5. Some real gems in there,

    >Björn Borg came over and asked for a photograph. “Are you kidding?” I spluttered. John Major said: “You have given us so much enjoyment.” “I wish I could say the same of you,” was the unstoppable reply. He had the grace to laugh.

    Fascinating to read his political insights the most, especially since he was so active and seemed to meet mainstream politicians regularly.

    His observations on 9/11 and aftermaths, as well as 7/7 were very wise, definitely vindicated.

  6. I liked this observation:

    > Russell Brand on Jonathan Ross.
    I like Russell, but ohmigod I hate the faux-naif thing that’s inevitable when quirk meets ambition (see Gervais, R). Just be honest about it, you fuckers. Don’t give us “who me?” bullshit.

  7. Confused by this section;

    *4 December
    Talking to [agent] Paul Lyon-Maris about HP exit, which he thinks will happen. But here we are in the project-collision area again. Reiterating no more HP. They don’t want to hear it.*

    Was Rickman alluding to a recasting of Snape? Wouldn’t that have been unbelievably risky given Rickman knew the plot twist at the very end of the entire series?

    Also confused by this entry;

    *7 February
    8.15am pick-up Car park. Paparazzi. Freezing cloister of Gloucester Cathedral. A whole new working relationship, this time with Tom Felton [playing Draco Malfoy]. The story of this so-far-six-part epic is one minute there were all these little kids … now? Found Maggie in her trailer vulnerable and fuck-it – all at once.*

    Was Maggie Smith simply upset at HP ending, or was it not about that at all?
