You get such unbridled access to resources. 12 items on your card, no fines, free Wi-Fi, and access to every single library in the country.
If they dont have the item you want it can ordered from any part of the country and delivered to your local and receive a notification when it’s there.
One card, every library.
If you use the library, fair play, keep doing your best.
If not, can I ask you why?

You can also get ebooks and audiobooks
Local library closed down, 10 miles to the next one. They tried mobile libraries for a year and nobody used it cos we told people for years “don’t go into a vehicle you don’t know” so that was the end of that.
Pretty good for social stuff too, my local does occasional talks/readings/clubs, stuff like people talking about the history of the area, there was a pretty good cookery-based meeting recently where I had some great chats and swapped a few recipes.
I also love dictionaries and your card gives you unlimited access to the OED.
Plus it’s just fucking nice to be in the library for a while.
The audiobooks system is amazing!
We know.
Joined recently and love it. I used to be a big reader but fell off the wayside.
I look forward to bed now and a few cheeky chapters.
Mine offers so i assume all have access to free language lessons as well if anyone is intrested. I havent used them so cant say if their great or not but cool that its a option.
They’ve a huge selection of PS4, ps5, Xbox and switch games too!
You just reserve an item and it’ll get transferred to your nearest branch for you to pick up.
Unreal.
Can’t remember the country, maybe Australia but they had sowing machines and other items. It was a shared space that you could book and sow or mend it do a project. Pretty cool idea j thought. Support your library and you never know what might be offered
And if you’ve kids with additional needs, ours has a sensory library with sensory resources to rent out. It’s an amazing resource because that stuff is so expensive.
Op any library jobs going? Or at least tips where to start? I visit my local library every week and have a BA in librarianship and information, library job is a dream 😍
The library is brilliant! It’s the one place you can go and exist and learn and be entertained, see art and absorb culture and not spend money. The library doesn’t care what school you went to or if you went at all. They’re there for you. Currently 16% of people in this country use the library. The other 84% don’t know what they’re missing.
Blanch has a 2d printer. It used to have art you could borrow.
I read a book a week, sometimes more, but I’ve only been into a library 4 times in 12 years (since I came to Ireland). I use my kindle.
I went into the Ilac one earlier in the year as I was meeting some Ukrainians to help them. There was no power socket so we had to go downstairs to Starbucks as laptop battery went flat.
I went into the Blanchardstown one 3 times during my undergrad- needed somewhere to meet on a Sunday for a study group. I remember it being difficult to print/ photocopy so I’ve not been back.
I drive past the Ballymun library on the way to/ from work. I keep thinking I should stop, but it hasn’t happened yet.
I have two books that are years overdue and I’m scared I’ll go to prison for life if I step one foot into a library again.
We need more tool libraries as well.
Thank you for this random post! I just registered and reserved my first book!
Thanks for this, going to join, can I ask, what’s the difference with the link you shared versus going for corkcitylibraries.ie and joining my closest branch? They seem different.
Now THIS is the content I want to see on r/Ireland.
Come winter you will need to book a seat there will be that many people staying there to get warm
Good place to go to get out of the rain while you kill time before the train/bus.
We on our library service I work for just for funding to buy a ton of board games. Gonna be setting up some board game nights .
We also have a 3d printer that is free to use. All we do is make sure what your printing isn’t something bad like a gun or a giant mickey LoL
You can access a lot of magazines for free via the libby app. I get the economist on it.
There’s also a newspaper app
Libraries are a fantastic resource we should all appreciate them more

Because the inconvenience of actually going to a library is greater to me than the actual cost of buying the audio book on audible
You can borrow a book from one library ( say, if your parents dragged you on a camping holiday to Achill and the rain is pissing down) and return it in a different one.
