Hello! I am adopting a puppy from Bulgaria and taking it to United States, and need some help figuring exactly what documentation and requirements we need traveling with our pup. The pup is currently 4 weeks old.

Does anyone have experience if I am flying with the puppy in cabin? We will most likely also have a layover somewhere.
There is a lot of information about USA to Bulgaria but not vice versa.

So Far to leave Bulgaria it seems like we need Pet Passport. We may have to do a layover in EU country will the puppy need to get his rabies vaccine? Does the puppy have to be at least 12 weeks?

Entering United States : Since Bulgaria is not a high-risk rabies country, there is no requirement for rabies vaccine and just verbal statement puppy is healthy. Also maybe address where we will quarantine the puppy until it gets its rabies vaccine.

Want to make sure we are not missing anything.

Thank you in advance!

  1. Since the puppy is born in Bulgaria, eg is bulgarian, you must eat yogurt with him every evening, or else it will start singing “Oh, Shipka!”.

  2. Better find a vet . And he will tell you exactly what documents and vaccines the puppy will need to go to us.
