  1. I bumped into this gem of history on a family guy history jokes compilation of all places, and I would like to know if this event is known in Poland, if it happened at all.

(Also, sorry for writing in English, I do not speak a word in your language 😔)

  2. Aye, that is true the Haitian President at the time, I forget his name, called the Poles Negroes of Europe, and that was deemed the highest honour.

  3. Napoleon also called us the negros of Europe which comes with an automatic lifetime n word pass

  4. Yes, there’s article on polish “diaspora” on Haiti. Quite interesting. Another interesting subject is Faustin Wirkus, polish-american king of haitian Gonave.

  5. The truth is they suppressed that rebellion but were very unsettled with the idea of being deployed so far from home to fight against another man’s freedom when they joined Napoleon to battle for their own independence.
I don’t think that many of them actually rebelled against Napoleon if any but the feeling of betrayal and moral unease was definitely a big thing, with books and even movies made about it.

  6. Haitian people said that we are white niggas of Europe and I am not joking. Please mods that’s what they said don’t ban me.

  7. It’s true, sadly most or at least big parts of Poles who arrived there died bc of sicknesses and heat before being able to help anybody

  8. There is some exageration to all that. Many polish troops felt exploited by Napoleon to be sent into a fight that had nothing to do with their own. Many have not so much swiched sides, as simply deserted to start a life on Haiti. This is why in Dessalines’ constitution – which forbade whites from owning land – Polish (as well as German) settlers were explicitly excluded from the ban, making them legaly black.
This pertained mostly to simple soldiers. One of the Polish officers who fought in Haiti, general Jabłonowski, was a mulatto. In fact many napoleonic officers in the operation were Haitian creoles, and it was them who later formed the republican government in the south, while Dessalines ruled in the rural north as a self-proclaimed Emperor (emulating Napoleon himself). So the divide in attitudes was less about race or ethnicity, and more about social class.

  9. Yeah and also they gave us the title of “the White Negroes of Europe”

  10. I cant believe this dude used “bullied” instead of “enslaved”

    goofy ahh

  11. It is true. But we have Napoleon in our anthem for some reason anyway

  12. Kind off, it wasn’t like all of them. And they weren’t terrified i guess (they didn’t live under rock). They just understood they wanted their freedom, and they were fighting to take it from someone else.
Overally true, but best to read somewhere about it, instead of taking internet strangers word for certain.

  13. Not exactly. While the story itself is true, it’s not like this commenter portrayed it. First of all, it’s irrational to think that Polish people were oblivious to the fact that black people were used as slaves. They obviously knew, but they could empathize with them, because they were both fighting for their freedom and independence. Also, they were already unhappy with Napoleon. That’s why some of them chose to change sides, and fight for Haitians. And here’s another thing this commenter got wrong: not *all* Poles did that.

  14. Yes and for that polish people were called “honorary negros of Europe” by Haitian leader

  15. Totally true! There are Haitians with blue eyes due to Polish origins.

Some Haitian still have Polish or originated from Polish language names.

Also in recognition of Polish help, the Haitians made a constitutional inscription where all Poles were granted Haitian Citizenship. This amendment is probably not valid anymore, but certainly worth the historical note.

  16. Yes that’s true even in Haitian constitution from 1805 which banned whites from settling in haiti Polish people were excluded from this ban they even got citizenship even now in haiti there is a lot of people with blue eyes

  17. Its very evil action. Poles made an enclave and slaved Haiti women after winning rebel

  18. Ohohho have u heard about gigachad polish hudari?

  19. Yes and the first King of Haiti granted us all a n-word pass

  20. I mean, I never knew about this….Kinda embarrassed of that ngl.

  21. There was a viral meme of how their president gave us the n-word pass for it so yeah

  22. Yes, it’s true. Thats why they called the poles the “white negros”

  23. Yap. The Haitian people called us “the Negroes of the Europe” on that occassion. As a compliment of course, and as a recognition of Polish people enslavement by Russia, Prussia and Austria-Hungary back in that time.

  24. That sounds 100% like the right thing to do, which is deeply ingrained in Poles 🙏

  25. Ah, yes, meanwhile Poland that haven’t enslaved anyone… right?!

  26. It is true. Another fascinating fact similar to this one is that Polish man once became a king of Madagascar. Google Maurycy Beniowski

  27. Yup, Poles even got the name of “White Negroes Of Europe” from the Haiti’s first head of state Jean-Jacques Dessalines. Also to this day, there are group of people called “Lapologne” from their polish ancestors.

  28. Wow way to take credit AND there was probably a material interest
